Re: Big Huckleberry via Cedar Creek Trail # 149, 062021

Good one! Here’s a related hike idea. Last year I parked at the same Cedar Creek trail you did, hiked to Big Huckleberry, then on to Grassy Knoll. Returned part way to Cold Springs Camp where there’s a short cut trail back down to the road. From there, a road walk back to the car to complete a loop...

Re: Twin Lakes - Elkhorns

Great TR and pics, thanks! Nice to know about the bugs and I second the idea about a bug thread.

Interesting geology in your pika photo. I've never been to the Elkhorns, only driven near the area on I84. Your report makes a trip very tempting.

Re: Big Huckleberry via Cedar Creek Trail # 149, 062021

Here's what my metadata shows: lat 45;49;52 long 121;47;51 alt 892 That's clearly bogus, but it's all I can offer. Thanks Chip. Your coordinates mark a spot 750' to the SW of where the we started up. Interesting that your sign and the one Pablo saw are different. Odd about the altitude being so far...

Re: Big Huckleberry via Cedar Creek Trail # 149, 062021

all the signs pictured in the previous TR’s are gone for some reason. Who does things like that!? The sign on Rd 68 for the northbound trail is alongside the road. I wasn't looking for it, just happened to spot it on May 4. No trail nearby. Interesting. Here is the sign on road 68 that Pablo posted...

Big Huckleberry via Cedar Creek Trail # 149, 062021

In our ongoing quest to piece together sections of the PCT we’ve missed, Kel and I headed out yesterday to bag a short section south of Big Huckleberry. On the 7th, we hiked from road 68-020 to the upper junction with the Cedar Creek Trail (AKA Weigle Hill Trail for the lower section) and turned aro...

Re: Rogue Wolf Loop (2021-06-12)

yeah, same here, I was thinking no-see-um lake wasn't such a good destination I think maybe those are midges that show up right about now. For maybe a month. Maybe the month of July. Small biting flies that aren't deterred by DEET. At 5000 feet elevation or so in the Cascades. The midges are bad en...

Re: Rogue Wolf Loop (2021-06-12)

Thanks for the great TR and photos! This is an area that's intrigued me, partly because of the neat names for many of the peaks in the area. (Devils, Lucifer, Jupiter, Venus) Also, some of the lake names, though mostly a little farther south of the Seven Lakes Basin, are equally interesting. (Tsuga,...

That's where I lost you. I don't see anything that corresponds to that description.

Carrying around a chainsaw in an easy access sling on the trail might get you a considerable amount of side-eye and a very wide berth when passing people....
Especially if you leave it running...

Nice report and pics. I hadn't heard of Triangulation Point. Looks like a fun hike. Thanks.
