Re: Central Cascades permit changes
My group was fortunate to score a permit for the Marion Lake TH earlier this month. We had a pleasant interaction with a ranger at Jorn Lake in the Eight Lakes Basin earlier this month. He approached our campsite, asked us how we were doing, and didn't ask for our permit. I proactively handed him th...

Re: Inactive members: where are they now?
I'm not sure how much longer people can tolerate the short attention span nature of social media. Maybe when the social media craze burns itself out people will migrate back to using forums regularly again. Or we'll all have cyborg implants and be part of a human hive mind network. Or both.

Re: Over Half of Central Cascades Permits Go Unused
Has anyone had their permit checked? I did a week trip and no one checked mine. I had two permits this year, one in August and one in September. To my surprise I never saw any rangers the whole time on either trip, first time in many years of visiting the Mt Jefferson Wilderness that I haven't enco...

Re: Best trail car/truck
I had a subaru outback that I dinged the transmission on a rock and had the transmission warning light flashing WAY out past Scotts Mills. It ended up only being a solenoid and it made it back but would only drive in 1st and 3rd until I replaced it. Also, the same car got stuck early season heading...

Re: Sat Messenger rescue services
On that plan it will cost you 10 per ping to track you every 10 min. If you go up to the next plan you get free unlimited tracking pings. And also I think 40 messages per month included for free. If you are knocked out your contacts can check your location with a ping as long as you are in an area ...

Re: Who else got their central cascades permit today?
I snagged two permits in the Mt Jefferson Wilderness - Pamelia Lake TH in August, and Duffy Lake TH in September.
But finding consecutive days to reserve was difficult, and I was on at 7:02am. By the next day ALL of the day trip permits in some areas for August were gone - all of them.

Welcome to the club! Its use is the same or similar as my DeLorme inReachSE device, so if you have any questions about it just let me know. ;) You'll have to add me to your list of emergency contacts - I think I have you on my list. I give my family the password protected link to track me when I'm ...

Websites super slow and clunky, cant find tracking settings... just tell me it tracks my out there and shows that on a map to the SAR folks if I ever hit the SOS? Welcome to the club! Its use is the same ...

Re: U.S. Forest Service postpones initial release of Central Cascades Wilderness permits
Uhm, just go w/o a permit. It's a viable long term plan too :) 😅 Seems a lot of people will be practicing their stealth camping and night hiking skills. ;) The daily quotas for these areas seem ridiculously low and support for this program is severely lacking. In recent years I've had less than fri...
