Re: Anyone visited Goat Rocks/Lilly Basin Trail lately?
Thanks for the report. We're planning to head into the Goat Rocks from the east side, from Conrad Meadow up the South Fork Tieton. I was hoping we wouldn't have *hordes* of mosquitoes, but it is still the end of July. Can you comment on what elevations had the worst bugs, and if they were present al...

Mt Adams Killen Creek - High Camp 8/8-10
20190808_172516.jpg Did a 2 night backpack earlier this weekend up on the northwest corner of Mt Adams. We arrived at Killen Creek trailhead around noon, and hiked up to High Camp at 6900'. We saw two packers on the way down, and nobody at High Camp until around 8:30 when one other person arrived. ...

Re: Mt Adams North
Has anyone been back up there recently? Considering a backpack there later this week but I'll head someplace else if the skeeters are thick.

Ingalls Lake (Alpine Lakes) 8/12 - 8/14
A couple of weeks back I packed in to Headlight Basin and Ingalls Lake, on the east side of Alpine Lakes Wilderness, with a Seattle friend and her 8 year old daughter. It's a fairly popular pack for Seattle area folks, but I'd never been to those parts and was eager to see what all the fuss was abou...

Thanks for the detailed report, and beautiful photos. I have never seen goat lake without snow and ice, let alone in early July. That's crazy!

Re: Wallowa River Loop via Polaris Pass (Aug. 3-7, 2012)
Thanks for the great write-up. I'm heading out for a week tomorrow. We were supposed to go up to Glacier Peak, but I saw a trip report saying that the bugs were just awful, and I'm too much of a wuss to spend an entire week as insect food. Based on your report, I think we're heading to ECW instead, ...

Re: Yocum Ridge 6/21
Encouraged by your report, I backpacked into Ramona Falls for 4th of July with a couple hundred or so of my best friends. I set up my tent below the horse camp and then headed up Yocum Ridge, which I've never hiked before. I thought maybe 2 weeks would make a difference regarding snow level and navi...

Thanks for the report! We're going to head up that way this weekend, hopefully the fires will be under control and not too smokey.

Bug-free weekend backpack?
Any suggestions for a moderate weekend backpack w/o swarms of bugs? Our plan is to head out on Friday after work, camp at a trailhead (or maybe go in a few miles, depending on distance from Portland and when we manage to leave town), pack to a new campsite for Saturday night and back out again on Su...
