Bluegrass Ridge Trail Clearing, 7/8/21

It was funny that Don posted a TR from a hike to Bluegrass Ridge earlier this week, since I was planning on a hike there this week too. I first hiked BR last year -- it had been on my to do list for a while, and the middle of a pandemic seemed like a good time to do it, as it nearly guaranteed solit...

Re: Bluff Mt Trail to Silver Star, 7/3/21

In your pic captioned View north from Bluff Mtn, you can see the rugged north ridge below. That's the fun scenic route to the top of Bluff. Highly recommended. That was my initial plan as I eyed Bluff from the trail. I got cold feet after the dip right before Bluff mtn. I wasn't eager to tackle add...

Bluff Mt Trail to Silver Star, 7/3/21

IMG_9253_Book.jpg You've probably hiked Silver Star, perhaps many times (if you haven't, put it on your list -- it really is spectacular). If you've only hiked the Silver Star/Ed's Trail from the north or Grouse Vista from the south, you should explore some of the other trails that lead to Silver S...

Re: Morgan/Summit/Freezeout Loop: 6/4/21

Great trip report on an awesome-looking trip! Did you camp or do it in one day? Boy, I really want to get out there sometime, but so far from Portland!

BTW, congrats on 1000th post!

Re: Fifteenmile Creek – 5/11/2021

I hiked this today, 5/15/21, and the blown down trees are mostly cleared out. All clear down to the trail junction with Cedar Creek trial, and mostly clear on the Cedar Creek Trail -- just a few very large trees across the trail. The fifteenmile creek trail had a bit more tree fall left on it, but n...

Beautiful. Looks like you had good weather - one nice result of our unusually dry April.

Re: Catherine Creek 4/12/21

Yes, I think they have always intended to build a trail on Tracy Hill. Note the map below, wouldn't that be CA3? Most of these trails have actual names now. No, I'm talking about the old 4WD road that leads up from the top of CA3 (I don't remember what they've named it) towards the NFS boundary, th...

Catherine Creek 4/12/21

On Sunday I explored the slopes between Catherine Creek and Coyote Wall. There are abundant Wildflowers in bloom here, and the more widely you range the more species you'll see. I got a bit of a late start, not arriving at the Catherine Creek trailhead until 10 am. I knew I was in trouble when on I-...
