ah the good ol days. I rarely lurk but otherwise stopped posting TRs due to crowds.
Some good people in this forum though, glad to see they are still around.

Re: Sat Messenger rescue services
Nice thing has been that when I'm out it puts down a track point every 10 minutes. With the Garmin explore link my family has access to my exact location in case something happens and I don't check in or come home. Although my first trial run was a success sending messages, none of which showed my ...

Re: Sat Messenger rescue services
one reason I liked the tracking feature is because Im the type that doesn't like to communicate from out there, I don't really want to set that precedence either. I could try no tracking and just check in with presets but Id probably forget till the end of the day. Since Im solo and off trail a lot ...

Re: Sat Messenger rescue services
Thats also an interesting idea... if you knock yourself out a location is worth more than a track. Except for no satellite reception but Ive always found those arguments over rated Ive never had serious reception issues even in heavy trees or canyons.

Re: Sat Messenger rescue services
yeah the tracking and messaging feature is whats worth the cost for anyone who spends time solo. Id imagine SAR wishes everyone had some form of comms even if basic messaging.

Re: Sat Messenger rescue services
It will definitely work out how I wanted it to if I need more than the Safety plan then I might as well buy the annual recreation plan and be done with it. I wanted the tracking feature since I've been doing more off trail solo hikes, I thought of tracking as much of a good feature as the messaging ...

Re: Sat Messenger rescue services
I wish the manual was more clear on this, I thought tracking came with all plans and the 10cents was only if I wanted to send my current location to someone (or they ping me). My idea was if I knocked myself out, at some point wife calls 911 and gives SAR my track data from my map explorer webpage w...

Re: Sat Messenger rescue services
10 cents every 10 minutes is ridiculous and people still have to ping me for another 10 cents just to see my current position?

Re: Sat Messenger rescue services
Bear with me as I learn this as I haven't had a chance to hike or take it out for a trial run.... So what I'm hearing is if I turn on tracking it charges me 10cents every 10 minutes under the Freedom Safety plan I have and still doesn't update my webpage map? https://discover.garmin.com/en-US/inreac...

Re: Sat Messenger rescue services
so then it tracks me every 10 minutes but doesnt send those anywhere unless I send my track data or someone requests it (10cents each)?
