Re: Best source for up-to-date trail info in Gorge?

What kind of info are you looking for - current conditions (eg, snow), what's still closed from the fire, ....? Closures have not really changed since last year, and all that is on the USFS Gorge website; for snow, check the snow level thread here and that should give you an idea of where the snow l...

Re: Have you ever herd of Russia's Mt of the dead?

Edit: The movie is a follow up trek to where the incident occurred so not exactly about the incident. Kind of like the Blair Witch movies but in Russia with a lot of snow. DN, didn't that movie make it so that the incident was due to Soviet alien zombie mutants or something? I am skeptical of how a...

Re: lost trekking poles

every minute the news industry devotes to fluff stories is a minute they're not lying to us about matters of consequence. I was hoping the clip would be that the lost trekking poles were found with Iraq's WMDs or, like, Jimmy Hoffa or something. The only reason that "story" made it to the ne...

Re: Mt. Hebo Meadow Mystery

It looks like the meadow maybe got flooded with a silty layer of water and the mud on top of the water dried as the water soaked down into the ground, leaving a mud crust on top of the grass. (Unless those are actually leaves - I can't make your photos big enough to see that. ;) )

Re: Augspurger Mt, alleged "Cascade Crest Trail", powerline loop

I've been to the top of the basalt nubbin. It's steep on the backside and then a sheer cliff on the front. It reminded me of Mt Kiesano, so I called it Mt Wiesano since it's in Washington. I hadn't realized this was a necromanced thread from 2016, and Bruce already answered my question about w...

Re: Augspurger Mt, alleged "Cascade Crest Trail", powerline loop

Jen, did you notice how the basalt blocks look like they were pushed into piles, like by a machine or something? I thought it was super weird, but I think it's the natural result of the ground under the field slowly sliding downhill. It's definitely an odd place. Does anyone know roughly when the CC...

Re: Best trail car/truck

I often think about the 99% problem when I see a shiny lifted pickup, with no cargo, nor any ennobling dents or scratches, at a paved trailhead . That truck, with all its shiny add-ons and engineering power, is just a waste of materials for 99% of the mileage it's driven. Ennobling . I'll remember ...
