Re: Off trail excursion leads to mysterious shrine on tree east of Mt. Hood

Re: Public Lands Getting HAMMERED by Crowds

The U.S. has done much worse than any other large country. Well not really when you look at the data per capita. The US is about in the middle of the pack when compared to the EU & UK. The US did squander the advantage it had over the EU in the Spring last year but there really isn't much differenc...

Re: Public Lands Getting HAMMERED by Crowds

I get the pressures covid has brought but half of that is parking but not necessarily people (4ppl carpool in 1 car usually = 4 cars) -- I know all the hikes ive done with friends were that way, two cars for two people, definitely fills the TH faster and makes it seem crazier than it really is. Goo...

Re: Public Lands Getting HAMMERED by Crowds

I guess this will be an unpopular reply but I don't think its nearly that bad if you choose where and when you go. I hike pretty much every Sunday all year long rain or shine. When I hike in the Gorge I don't expect nor do I deserve solitude at the expense of others enjoyment by limiting access for ...

Re: Oregonian broadcasting popular trails

I don't waist any time worrying about this. Since 12/28 I've hiked all the recently reopened trails in the Gorge. McCord & Elowah on the 28th we made a loop out of it by returning on the old scenic highway trail and saw only about 6 other people starting at 8:00am Eagle Creek a couple of days later....

and you posted in portlandhikers facebook page :)
I hope a lot more people start hiking it or it will be a brushy mess this Spring. Lots of shoulder high post fire brush along much of the trail in the burn area that's not going to be a lot of fun when it all leaf's out this Spring & Summer.

Re: Eagle Creek trail reopens \o/ plus other reopenings

I heard back from the FS re: Franklin Ridge, who said they'd put somebody on it. If you notice the signs & fence have been cleared, please do post. I'll be curious to see when they get to it. We hiked it yesterday, still signed at both ends but then Kathy Dragich hiked it after us and reported seei...

Re: Eagle Creek 1-1-2021

Just confirming from this weekends travels: McCord & Elowah are open, there is a trail closed sign on the Nesmith trail junction. Eagle Creek & the Lower Punchbowl Falls trails are open. Multnomah Wahkeena loop open, some parking also reopened on the old highway, all fencing removed. All parking reo...

Re: Larch Mtn Road in winter

While not plowed past the last house around milepost 6 the relatively low elevation means the gate is accessible most of the winter. Intermittently blocked when the snow level drops.

We were there on Sunday and some 4WD goons have again opened up a gate drive around and are driving the whole way.
