Bear Lake Loop
This is my first post in ages although I have lurked on this forum from time to time. There is so much good information here and its time for me to contribute something. On August 24th I took my son on a backpacking trip in Indian Heaven Wilderness. We chose to head up to the lakes near the PCT junc...

Re: Mount Margaret and Coldwater Peak via South Coldwater -
Still on my list (even more so after seeing your beautiful pictures). It looks almost so wild, almost like it belongs in an even more desolate area! Thanx for the report

Re: Goat Rocks 9.5-9.8.11
Awesome report and picts :) You got an amazing close up of the Goats at Cispus basin! I backpacked the Goat Lake to Snowgrass loop and was going to wright a trip report but I will just piggyback this one instead if that's OK since your pictures and description are much better than what I have! Plus ...

Re: Hiking pants.
A little off topic from the summer pants discussion but ... I really love the army surpluss BDUs for late season and winter hikes. They are warm, protective and have the neccesary pockets. They are also relatively water resistant and seem adequate for glissading. For summer I prefer nylon pants, but...

Re: Snow depth, 2006 through 2011
I think there have been many good points brought up on both "sides" of this issue. My 1 cent about how to simply break this down is as follows: It is hard to prove global warming does exist as temperatures have risen and fallen in cycles throughout history and we don't know how much other factors co...

Re: North Seestar! aka: Ms. McCrumbles lots under ur foot&butt
Thanks for letting me live that climb vicariously through you! Very entertaining trip report offering options I haven't considered about chafing :) That is a climb I have been considering for a while. How would you consider the neccesity for ropes/self belay on this one. I have read other reports sa...

That was a great first solo backpacking trip! I wouldn't have had the nerve to do that on my first sole! Beautiful area out there and great report. The alpine expanses in the Wallowas are amazing and I'm glad you got to experience them

Re: snow patches below 3000 feet on SE side of Mt. St. Helens
They steam theory seems to explain a lot. Snow contains very little water compared to the same amount of rain so I could see how steam could add significant snow as it cools.

Re: Enchanted Valley - July 4th weekend
Nice report! Glad you had a great time. This is my favorite longer drive destination. The area is so beautiful and full of wildlife. I think that people willing to hike as far in as Enchanted Valley are going to be cautious about overtrampling ... though it does sound like there are a few well meani...
