Re: Can someone please tell me which hike this photo is taken from?

Looks like it was taken from somewhere up on Park Ridge overlooking Jefferson Park. Not only is that area buried under snow for quite awhile longer, but it has been closed in recent years due to wildfire damage. No word yet on whether it will open this season or not, and when it does you'll need to ...

Re: Inactive members: where are they now?

Then again, maybe some people left because they didn't like the way that conversations drift or get argumentative on here, and those of us who remain are just the angry ones. I don't think so, but who knows! Absolutely. The arguments and bickering over the central cascades permits a few years ago i...

Re: Inactive members: where are they now?

I definitely think Facebook is the primary reason. People don't have the time and patience to write up a thoughtful trip report. It's much easier to dump all the photos you took on your hike, don't write captions on any of them, write two sentences about the hike for the main post, and wait for the ...

Re: Wildflowers at Lyle Cherry Orchard 4/17/2022

I've hiked on Easter before and found plastic eggs. I never understand the desire to purposely litter nature with more plastic. I have found that repetition over many years has slowly embedded some flower knowledge in my brain, especially when I see people more knowledgeable than me identify flowers...

This list may prove useful: https://www.oregonhikers.org/field_guid ... ackpacking

But I'll second drm's comment about downed trees. Trail crews will not have been out on any wilderness trails yet so expect plenty of downfall.

Re: 2022 Backpacking Plans

Most summers we put in vacation requests for a week off work at the end of July, make backpacking plans, and then have to change those plans at the last minute due to wildfires in the area we want to be, or smoke from elsewhere choking the air where we want to be. I don't expect this summer to be an...

Re: Central Cascades permit changes

Another example is the Enchantments and the nearby Chiwaukum Mountains. During a spell of glorious weather last fall, my buddy and I hiked about 75 miles of trail in the Chiwaukum Mountains. We enjoyed alpine vistas, terrific scrambling, clear lakes, and golden larch trees. . . and almost no people...
