Re: Mount Margaret Loop?

My friend and I did this area on 7.22.20 and had some real concerns about this crossing. We paused for quite a while, working up the courage (or ignorance) to walk that eroded area. Since we're not spring puppies (we're old geezers) we thing ignorance worked best for us. Note that even my dog Buddy ...

Re: Mill Creek Wilderness 5/28-31/2021 (and lessons in getting lost)

Thanks for the excellent trail report and the excellent "he's lost" report. Your post mortem had lots of good ideas as did all the other hiker inputs. I'll be changing some of my "lost" strategies based on your experience as well the reader feedback. One thing my wife or hiking partner have used in ...

Great trail report, very detailed, and even better photos. One of these days I'm going to take one photo that will match those.

Re: Hamilton Mountain 4.19.21

Thanks, I've been following all your and the other "ancient" OregonHikers exploits and decided to post a few of Buddy and my hikes. I guess we've all gotten older but hopefully better.

Hamilton Mountain 4.19.21

The tread is super dry almost everywhere on the hike and seems to be even rockier. There's also been continued erosion at numerous locations. However, it's still a very beautiful hike with many expansive viewpoints and enough grade to give the lungs a workout. We did the trail counterclockwise, up t...

Re: Trip Report for Deschutes Upper Trail with a question

I agree with the other folks, keep posting and don't worry whether folks are reading it or not. Want times for me I'll spot a statement from a particular hike and decide I should do that hike. Since my dog Buddy goes with me I like to hear about tics and snakes, and I believe both exist in quanatiti...

Re: Bird Mt. Loop, Indian Heaven, 092120

I forgot to mention we went up on the 20th and Hwy 30 was open at least to Rd 65, the road to Panther Creek CG. Rd 65 was in typical condition with a few fallen trees cleared. There is pretty low spot, slight washout, a few miles from Thomas Lake TH but passenger cars had made it though.

Re: Bird Mt. Loop, Indian Heaven, 092120

My wife and I hiked from Thomas Lake to Rock Lakes, took old trail over to Junction Lake then south on PCT to Blue Lake. We met two hikers who told us there were 3 sections of significant down trees a bit north of Blue Lake. Sure enough there were, quite a jumble with no good way around them. IMG_52...

Re: The Dogs of Oregon Hikers

Included are a few photos of my new(er) dog. Buddy is a rescue from Southern California, was about to be euthanized as I understand since he had bitten a few people. It's taken 3 years for him to understand he no longer has to defend himself and he's turned into a great dog. Anywhere I go he will fo...
