Maybe the mystery object is the sun glare coming off a moving aerial drone?

Re: Coyote Wall and other bike trails
This sounds like a lot more "impact" than anything hikers are doing. More death by bureaucracy? Once a heavily used area is damaged and eroded by user trails, if you simply do nothing and let users follow their own inclinations they'll just move to a slightly different route to avoid the earlier da...

Re: New Section Hiker
Unfortunately, the public transportation opportunities near trails are very spotty. :( For what it's worth, the three times I've done serious section hiking in Oregon and parts of Washington I've dragooned my wife or my brother to drop me off at my start point or pick me up at my end point. Re: Dead Mountain 02-24-2024
Thanks for the report! :) I was curious about that Flat Creek trail sign so I went to the Willamette Forest website and looked up Dead Mountain trail. The description for it starts like this: Dead Mountain Trail #3566 Formerly Flat Creek Trail, the Dead Mountain Trail begins by climbing up to a smal...

Re: USFS oppression marches on with proposed high-Hood permit
Besides that, the old system largely favors fit hikers who can hike fast. The new system is more equitable because it gives slower hikers a better chance. Most of your post made sense to me, but this piece did not. Were you thinking that fast hikers always got all the available camping spots? That ...
