Re: Two day backpacking trip recommendations

We get similar requests around spring break time each year and each time we mention the meager opportunities available. The basic problem is that spring break always coincides with the snow pack reaching its maximum for the year. If you don't snow camp there's not much out there right now for backpa...

Re: Dead Mountain 02-24-2024

Just guesswork here, but your description and research suggests to me that the FS abandoned Flat Creek trail before 2014 and left it to sink back into a natural state, but some local mtn bikers put the work in to resurrect it and restructure it as a biker's single track. If so, then good for them.

Re: Dead Mountain 02-24-2024

Thanks for the report! :) I was curious about that Flat Creek trail sign so I went to the Willamette Forest website and looked up Dead Mountain trail. The description for it starts like this: Dead Mountain Trail #3566 Formerly Flat Creek Trail, the Dead Mountain Trail begins by climbing up to a smal...

Re: USFS oppression marches on with proposed high-Hood permit

Besides that, the old system largely favors fit hikers who can hike fast. The new system is more equitable because it gives slower hikers a better chance. Most of your post made sense to me, but this piece did not. Were you thinking that fast hikers always got all the available camping spots? That ...

Re: Lost wallet at Trillium Sno Park

good luck! the chances the finder is honest are actually pretty good. the chances they read about it here are much smaller. our traffic tends to be on the low side in the winter months. but, again, good luck! hope you get it back intact! :)

Re: Hello!

Welcome. You'll find that this website and especially these forums are an excellent source of local information as your trip here from Michigan approaches. Where do you like to backpack when you're not visiting our neck of the woods here in the PNW?
