Re: West Fork Wallowa Ford - Question/Suggestions?

-Has anyone been up there in the last week or so? -Is the West Fork Wallowa trail the best to consider? I've been reading on the Hurricane Creek, East Fork Lostine, and West Fork Lostine trails as options too. Would one of those be a better choice if I'm looking for easier fords? I forded the W. Fo...

Re: Help me plan a 5-day Wallowa route

The southern side of Eagle Cap remains less crowded. I was just there doing a loop that included hiking down the S. Fork Imnaha R. from Hawkins Pass, then up the N. Fork Imnaha and over Tenderfoot Pass. I saw exactly zero other hikers from the moment I left the Lakes Basin Management Area at Little ...

No need to disturb it for that. Just use photoshop or a clone and make it disappear.

Re: Three Fingered Jack East Canyon Meadows July 3rd

Anyone do Sugar Pine Ridge recently? No one in their right mind would travel the Sugar Pine Ridge trail its full length in its current condition. It's choked with snow brush and deadfall. The Jefferson Lake trail, just to the north has been largely rehabilitated lately by a dedicated group of volun...

Re: this is not how you flag a trail

This is what happens when someone learns "woodcraft" from books and youtube videos made by survivalists. I expect the perpetrator brought his K-Bar knife and some MREs.

Re: puzzling story of Nevada hiker lost on trail for four days

Considering how empty, hot and dry most of Nevada is, just going the wrong direction on a trail could conceivably be fatal. Since the outcome was extremely favorable it's hard to say the hiker made any mistakes in how he chose to respond to the situation.

Re: pollen allergies

My pollen allergy has improved as I've aged. Part of that has been the availability of better antihistamines than existed when I was a child or young adult, but some of it has been a reduction in my sensitivity. I take loratadine (generic Claratin) daily and when things get bad I add benadryl, which...

The 'metal object' looks like the sort of tent stake you'd use with a big old canvas tent packed in on a mule.

Re: Wallowas Ridge Walking: 7/7/21-7/9/21

Thanks for the report and all the photos. I will be in that same area in about a week and a half and the snow and bug info your report provides is especially helpful. As for the West burning, that seems a given. :( I can only hope the wind blows the smoke elsewhere so the the air is breathable and t...
