Re: Crater Lake Entrance Fee

I'm less concerned about what foreign tourists are willing to pay than about setting the entrance fees at a rate that allows access to ordinary working americans, and if that level of entrance fee is not sufficient to cover the basic upkeep and protection of the parks, the difference should be cover...

Re: Dry Creek (SW WA) camping?

I've only day-hiked a couple of miles up the Dry Creek trail once, a few years ago, so this is based on slight experience and dim memory. Take it with several grains of salt until a better answer shows up. I don't recall any obvious and well-established campsites along the first couple of trail mile...

That's obviously not going to cut it for 1/2 million acres. Hush. No one is supposed to notice that....

Re: Looking for a good backpacking location

The area immediately around Ollalie Lake is designated as a "Recreation Area" and is not within the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness Area. The boundary of the wilderness area begins directly south of Breitenbush Lake and would normally be accessed via the PCT trailhead at Breitenbush Lake. The new permit an...

Re: 1933 pamphlet for a Salem Chemekatans outing to Mt. Hood

I figured that if anyone would recognize that lookout, it would be you, justpeachy. I have another Oregon lookout tower photo from 1936. My father-in-law who was a forestry student at Oregon State and served in a fire lookout that summer. My wife may know its location, so I'll ask her first before I...
