Re: Wildcat Mt. Trail Closed Until Further Notice
The thinking in closing and ripping up Wildcat Mountain Quarry was that a normal trailhead (the new Douglas Trailhead) would not be nearly as cool a place to shoot, dump trash and act stupid. If you quit using the new trailhead then all the people still trashing the place win. Douglas TH also gives ...

Re: Lookout Mountain-Badger Creek-Gumjuwac Creek Loop
It is a terrific loop with excellent flower areas. Really appreciate your trail work. Got a laugh about your "didn't see any horses" comment.
Has anyone driven road 3550 from High Prairie to Gumjuwac Saddle?

Re: Less deadfall this year at Badger Creek Wilderness.
We do not get any funds to help us with trail clearing from the Northwest Forest Pass Revenue or from anywhere else. All of our time and gas (for chainsaws if not wilderness, or to pull our stock trailers) is donated by the volunteers doing the actual trail work. In our BCH Columbia Gorge Chapter al...

Less deadfall this year at Badger Creek Wilderness.
Finally, after years of cutting logs in Badger Creek Wilderness, this year there were NOT AS MANY. Our Columbia Gorge Back Country Horsemen volunteers were able to clear Badger Creek Trail #479 from Bonney Crossing to Badger Lake, Post Camp Trail #467, and Badger Cutoff Trail #477. There is still wo...

Oregon State Parks survey to determine funding for trails.
Has this been posted yet? Thanks, barb Oregon State University is conducting a once-per-decade assessment of non-motorized trail use on behalf of Oregon State Parks. The survey covers trail use anywhere in Oregon, from local parks to national forests. We have sent surveys to a sample of trail users ...

Re: Eagle Creek (Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness)
I do want to give credit to the Forest Service for senting a youth crew into Eagle #501 in 2011. The crew camped in the canyon along the trail. They restored tread, brushed, and worked on water bars.

Re: Eagle Creek (Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness)
Mt. Hood Chapter Oregon Equestrian Trails finished clearing the logs from Eagle #501 on July 14. Mike Matthews, Wilderness Stewart, helped us out by scouting the trail, taking photos, and noting location of larger logs. For the timber cutting this summer the old road leading down to the trails (Eagl...
