Small purple flowers

There were a few patches of these guys along the McKenzie River Trail today. I'm new in town so all I know is I don't recognize them from the midwest :) Help?

Crawfish, Knott, and Adams Mountain Trails 02-16-2024

The original plan was to make a loop: up the Crawfish Trail, across the Knott Trail, down the Adams Mountain trail (these are all in the mountains on the south side of Brice Creek, and covered in the Cottage Grove Ranger District Hiking guide . That ended up not being quite how the day worked out, b...

Re: Heckletooth Mountain 02-06-2024

Thanks for linking that, I meant to and forgot.

The Hwy 58 segments at least I don't think I'd want to walk. Not a lot of shoulder and not always the best drivers in the world on that road.

Re: Heckletooth Mountain 02-06-2024

what is the eugene to crest trail? There's a page from the Willamette NF on it: The concept of providing a continuous trail from Eugene, Oregon to the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail began in the early 1970's. While the trail officially opened in 1994, it was never fully completed and not all s...

Brice Creek and Trestle Falls 02-10-2024

I headed a bit south from Eugene this time on a foggy morning, crossing into the Umpqua National Forest just at dawn with the temperature just below freezing. In another mile I was at the (huge) parking area for the West Brice trailhead, which marks the western end of the Brice Creek trail. The trai...

Re: Server errors are getting worse

Well presumably we all know it was a rough few days. Thanks to whoever fixed things.

Probably been asked before, but - anything needed to help? Cash? Tech noodling? Stop posting <g>?

Heckletooth Mountain 02-06-2024

More good-for-January weather, so I was off for another hike. This time I drove just past Oakridge to Eugene to Crest Trailhead #2 (which amazingly enough, is accurately shown on Google Maps) and hiked up to the summit of Heckletooth Mountain, about 5 miles away and 2000 feet up. Trailhead parking i...

Re: How do you make coffee at home?

I went down the whole roast-beans-grind-weigh everything-measure water temp etc etc route a few years ago. I discovered that for my tastes it isn't worth the effort. Nowadays I toss a couple of scoops of Cafe Bustelo in a french press, add water from an instant hot water dispenser, let it sit five m...

Lawler & Patterson Mountain Trails 02-04-2023

It was another unseasonably nice day in the Eugene area, so I tackled the Lawler and Patterson Mountain trails. This was easily the best hike I've been on in quite some time, and I feel like I got very lucky with timing. The recent spate of warm weather and rain has washed away most of the snow we g...
