Do you mean west of the Islet campground?I was camped east of the Islet campground across the lake on a sheltered cove.

Re: Indian Heaven overnighter with kids - Cultus & Deep Lake
Thank you both for the encouragement! I'm lucky that all four of my kids still beg to go on these outings with me and hopefully they will still want to as they get older! My oldest is 13 so check back in a few years ...!

Re: Indian Heaven overnighter with kids - Cultus & Deep Lake
That's true, there were probably only 3 good sites at Deep Lake. No, the orange tent right on the lake was from the couple who were already camped there when we arrived. We had to search around a bit, but found a great spot across the lake, on the south side ... I wanted to check out Elk Lake, but w...

Indian Heaven overnighter with kids - Cultus & Deep Lake
I use this site all the time but rarely post, so I thought I'd post a quick trip report that might help anyone else looking for good one-night backpacking trips for kids. This was kind of a last-minute trip, and my youngest daughter's (7 years old) first backpack trip (I owed them a trip, since I to...

Re: Trinity Alps June 2020
Funny to see this - I just got back from a 3-day backpacking trip in the Trinity Alps with my two older kids (age 10 and 12). We also stayed in the Scott Mountain campsite (right next to the PCT) on the drive down! This is Canyon Creek Lakes - the most popular, crowded hike in the Trinity Alps (but ...

Re: Looking for backpacking destination near Troutdale
It might be at the limits for distance from Troutdale (1 hour exactly), but Twin Lakes on Mt Hood is really nice. You can camp at the first lake, or hike to the upper twin lake. Perfect with kids, and not too much elevation gain. You park at the Frog Lake/PCT trailhead on Hwy 26 just past the 35 spl...

Re: Lupine extravaganza on Mt Adams
Not to hijack your post but I was up on Killen Creek trail with my kids a few weeks ago and had similar lupine views. Both the lupine and paintbrush were amazing - especially just below the PCT (very dry above the PCT). We didn't make it quite to High Camp, and the mosquitos were so bad at our turna...
