Re: How do you make coffee at home?

For my money, all AeroPress coffee should be made with very fine grounds. It probably requires a reasonably capable grinder, though, or you get a mixture of fine-to-course stuff. I adjust the grind so it takes about 30 seconds to push the water through with a good heavy force on the plunger. And ign...

Re: How do you make coffee at home?

AeroPress lately. I'm a recovering coffee snob who roasted his own beans for many years, always chasing but rarely obtaining that perfect shot. I've been clean since I wore out my third roaster. I've found the AeroPress (plus a good grinder) to make excellent coffee more consistently than anything ...

Re: Timberline Trail Backpacking Itinerary and Questions

... That would let you see most of the Goat Rocks. Well, most of one side of the Goat Rocks. :) There's a whole 'nother east side that's worth considering some other time. Can I assume leaving a car parked at the TH will be safe? or as safe as most places? I don't need a rental getting broken into....

Re: Timberline Trail Backpacking Itinerary and Questions

Regarding the Ladd Creek area, I'd prefer Eden Park over Cairn Basin, mostly because Ladd Cr has more glacial silt than I like putting through my filter, but also because Eden is much nicer.

Re: Cause of dozens of toppled trees at Hunts Cove?

I have no idea about this specific situation, but I do know that twisting trees off partway up is something tornadoes do. Here's a picture from the late 1970s of the aftermath of a tornado at my home: http://texasbb.net/files/Miscellaneous/tornado-damage-700x.jpg Yes, there were some that were uproo...

Re: Question

It probably depends on which direction you hike, but when I did it counter-clockwise last year there were really only two crossings where you couldn't quickly see the continuation on the other side--Sandy River and White River. However, in both of those cases, the trail continues along a creek (Rush...

Re: combining overlapping pics into a panorama

ahhh... the pictures have to overlap enough the software can align them Yes, Hugin needs some overlap. But you can't have too much overlap or Hugin gets confused in other ways. I've done panos that wouldn't work with the shots I took, but if I edited them down by cutting off some of the overlap, th...

Yes. Hugin has done a good job for me with several panos with 2 or 3 "levels." Many more have failed, but always because my composition was lacking. It's not always easy to lay out a large multi-D array by hand.

I've used Hugin for years. Yes, it's free.
