Lyle Cherry Orchard - Lyle Loop 12/2/22

We went to the Lyle Cherry Orchard and walked the west loop. The trails were in good condition, a skiff of snow on the north side, but mostly snow free. DSCF5703.JPG A few areas of mud, probably about 200 feet total on all of it. The mud was only about 1/4" thick, but sure was slick. We did have one...

Pelicans! 11/18/22 Vancouver Lake

We took advantage of the blue skies and went to Vancouver Lake. We hiked along the north trail, took a left to cross over a slough on a pedestrian bridge, crossed the road, walked along the edge of the field and then back into the park. Highlights were seeing pelicans on Vancouver Lake, along with e...

Surveyors Ridge from Bald Butte, 10-14-22

We went on Surveyors Ridge trail from Bald Butte to about a mile past the viewpoint, then came back to the viewpoint for lunch. Saw one trail runner and 3 mountain bikers. The trail was in excellent shape. There were some nice fall colors. A little hazy but still great views!

Re: Forest Road 4109

We went up there today. Slow going but doable. These photos show the worst of it. My partner was nervous and hanging on the whole way! Thank you Friends of 4109 for working on it!

Elk Cove to Pinnacle Ridge Loop 9/23/22

DSCF5500.JPG On Friday, we hiked starting from the Elk Cove Trailhead to the Timberline Trail to Pinnacle Ridge and back along the road. The field guide mentions a bushwhack instead of the road walk. But we were starting to run out of daylight (probably due to our 11:30 trail start) and did not fee...

Horsethief Meadows FR 620 and Trail 650 8/27/22

Continuing in our quest to hike on trails that are new to us, we (wife, dog and myself) parked just west of Hwy 35 at gated FR 3520, I believe. We had been here about a month ago, and encountered a lot of water on the road/trail, so figured we would try again. We started out on FR 3520. After a dry ...

Re: Hike Up - Not Down

I know you mentioned Mt. Hood, but have you thought about Mount Saint Helens for a hike and bike? You can leave a bike at Johnston Ridge Observatory (JRO) and start at Hummocks and catch the Boundary trail. And ride the bike down Spirit Lake Highway. Or start from South Coldwater and go to Johnston ...

Steam Donkey trail and Bloom Lake 4/30/22

I had a conference in Seaside and noticed some trailheads on highway 26. So we went back on Saturday to travel the Steam Donkey trail and Dooley Spur from the rest area. It was very pleasant. A nice walk through the woods while only seeing one other group on the trail. The greenery and forest was a ...
