Re: 2022 and Beyond - Snow Levels

5-12-23 On Forest Road 43 on the Wind River side, west of the PCT at about elevation 1800. There was continuous snow on the road, 1-2 feet deep. There were only patches of snow in the woods.

Succor Creek State Natural Area 4-27-23

We were at Succor Creek today and walked a couple miles near the south end, west side. We followed jeep/ATV trails. The scenery was amazing. Cliffs, an arch/hole in the wall, wildflowers, and green everywhere. Temps were in the 60's, but felt warmer since we were out in the sun with a light breeze.

Re: McKenzie River Trail Info?

The field guide covers this area. I am not sure if snow may be an issue this year. We stayed at Clear Lake one year in June. There is a nice trail around the lake. There is another great loop that includes Koosah and Sahalie Falls. The Tamolitch hike is nice. There were lots of folks there on a warm...

Re: Moulton Falls County Park 1/14/23

Oops, senior moment. We hiked this last year. It's listed as Bell's Mt. North Slope in the field guide. We went clockwise this time and it looked mostly different but somewhat familiar!

Moulton Falls County Park 1/14/23

We went to Moulton Falls County Park on Saturday. We got an early enough start that we finished before the rains came. We started from the upper overflow parking lot, crossed over the bridge and went up the Bells Mountain Trail. Shortly after the Bells Mountain 0.5 mile marker, there was a trail tha...

Lyle Cherry Orchard - Lyle Loop 12/2/22

We went to the Lyle Cherry Orchard and walked the west loop. The trails were in good condition, a skiff of snow on the north side, but mostly snow free. DSCF5703.JPG A few areas of mud, probably about 200 feet total on all of it. The mud was only about 1/4" thick, but sure was slick. We did have one...

Pelicans! 11/18/22 Vancouver Lake

We took advantage of the blue skies and went to Vancouver Lake. We hiked along the north trail, took a left to cross over a slough on a pedestrian bridge, crossed the road, walked along the edge of the field and then back into the park. Highlights were seeing pelicans on Vancouver Lake, along with e...

Surveyors Ridge from Bald Butte, 10-14-22

We went on Surveyors Ridge trail from Bald Butte to about a mile past the viewpoint, then came back to the viewpoint for lunch. Saw one trail runner and 3 mountain bikers. The trail was in excellent shape. There were some nice fall colors. A little hazy but still great views!

Re: Forest Road 4109

We went up there today. Slow going but doable. These photos show the worst of it. My partner was nervous and hanging on the whole way! Thank you Friends of 4109 for working on it!

Elk Cove to Pinnacle Ridge Loop 9/23/22

DSCF5500.JPG On Friday, we hiked starting from the Elk Cove Trailhead to the Timberline Trail to Pinnacle Ridge and back along the road. The field guide mentions a bushwhack instead of the road walk. But we were starting to run out of daylight (probably due to our 11:30 trail start) and did not fee...
