Water filtration suggestions

I am curious what everyone recommends for a lightweight water filtration system for hiking. I have a lifestraw and it works but it isn't exactly practical for constant use. Thanks!

Lookout Mountain 6/19/21

We took a gorgeous drive up to High Prairie this afternoon. The road to the trailhead, while bumpy, is fairly manageable. The wildflowers on High Prairie were in bloom. IMG_0008.JPG IMG_0010.JPG IMG_0005.JPG The hike to the top of Lookout Mountain was doable but there were still some substantial dri...

Re: 2021 Snow Level

4410 going up to High Prairie is clear. The trail is passable but there are some fairly substantial drifts that you have to climb over when you get clear of the meadows.

Re: weight saving tip: carry map OR compass

Sheesh, so I have been overpacking with a compass, paper map, AND a GPS? Also, please tell me they at least had water listed on there. I can see some people saying "Well the news didn't say we needed water!"

Re: What/where is "School Canyon"?

why would there be a school up there?
I tend to get bored and look at historic USGS maps, you would be surprised how many old schoolhouses are located out there. Most of them don't exist anymore.

Re: 2021 Snow Level

FR 4410, Lookout Mountain Road east of Mt Hood, is blocked with snow at the junction with spur FR 4410-650 about a mile from High Prairie trailhead. You read my mind, I was just wondering what the road going up to Lookout Mountain looked like. How gnarly has the road gotten over the winter to that ...

Re: Rocky Butte 5/22

One of the few ruins of a crow's nest lookout in the area. Another one that isn't too far from there is at Bus Point. It's not really on a trail, you just park on the road and walk about 700ft from the road. The ladder is there but as far as I can tell the crow's nest isn't anymore. IMG_0102.JPG IM...

Rocky Butte 5/22

I'm not going to lie, I have lurked on this forum for probably 10 years before joining in February. I figure it is time to try my hand at a trip report. I decided to take a short trip up to Rocky Butte. I've never been there before but know the area it is located in fairly well. The drive up ...

Re: Lewis River Recreation Area Reservation System Announced

My wife and I were there on 5/8 and while the parking lot at the lower falls was fairly full we had no difficulties finding a spot around 11am. When we made it up to the middle and upper parking lots there was almost nobody parked there. We were both fairly surprised as we were expecting FAR more pe...

Re: 2021 Snow Level

I drove from 35 to Dufur on 44 about 2 weeks ago. There are some shady spots where it is only one lane but fully driveable.
