Quick trip to Starvation Creek

Normally I don't do much hiking when it is in the teens outside but I had to see how the various waterfalls at Starvation Creek were looking with our current freezing temps. Re: Something horse-related?

I always thought it had something to do with horses or cows.

Re: 2021 Snow Level

There is far less snow on the East side of Mt. Hood than I have seen in quite a while. Road 44 is completely bare and on a whim decided to take 4410 up to High Prairie. You run into a little bit on about the last .5 mile. I don't think I have ever driven up there this late in the year. Considering h...

That is an insulator. Sometimes you see those on trees as they were used to run phone lines from lookouts. You can read about them below.

Re: Interesting tree markings

What confused me was the side by side gashes and that it wasn't very far off the ground.

Interesting tree markings

We have had some lively discussions in my house about what animal made this… any suggestions? Answers have ranged from bears to cougars to some seriously lost beavers.

Re: Vine Maple

Road 4811 heading from Bus Point back down to 48. I also saw better fall colors from my car than on the trail.

Re: Cutleaf evergreen blackberry

Maybe someone could write a poem.
Only if it is in iambic pentameter.

Re: Mt Defiance/Starvation Ridge -- 09/09/21

I suspect it must be gated. I'd be surprised if us common folk are allowed to drive that road.
There was a closed gate at the Warren Lake trailhead 3-4 years ago but more recently it is no longer attached. I've never felt like testing that road vs my CR-V, it looks pretty rocky.

Re: Project Area Boundary signs on Wygant Trail

The offramp for Michell Point is completely blocked off. I don't know if you can get over there from the East side of Mitchell Point or not. I suppose if you were super determined you could hike into the area as it is connected to the Mt. Defiance trail via Warren Lake.
