Such a nice name for a ridge but I am completely dissuaded now. Have you encountered swarms there in the past?
Thanks for the log!

King - Elk Mountain loop looks lush
I did the https://www.oregonhikers.org/field_guide/Elk_Mountain-Kings_Mountain_Loop_Hike this past weekend and the challenge requires your toes be up to the task. The prior trip reports from fitter hikers remain pretty accurate. The rope continues to be well secured, the scrambles are just as scram...

Re: Transit to Timberline, etc.
Be sure to check in with current trail conditions. Was up at the south facing timberline lodge yesterday and there was a lot of snow, so much that I am sure the trail is obscured. Looking forward to paradise park, but surely it isn’t yet ready. I took the CAT bus last month to cascade locks from Gat...

Ramona is at its finest
Yesterday we had a lovely hike to Ramona falls. The last bit of the dirt road before the trailhead parking still is a mess, potholes stretching over half the track. It is not getting any better. Some animal had made a real mess of the garbage can at the head of the parking, entering the trail, with ...

Early hike up to Bald Mountain from Top Spur
Pushing the envelope a bit on the last day of May, we drove up to Top Spur to see the conditions after a few warm weeks. About three-quarters of a mile short of the Top Spur trailhead, the snowpack blocked further vehicular advance. Like several other ambitious hikers, we parked and trekked up to th...

Thank you for your update. I was there a few weeks back and it was not a lush.

Just a week after this I got sidetracked to Mazama just like you. The trail description has since been updated on OH, but clearly, “go right” at the ancient sign saying not to camp in the meadow.
Lovely pictures!

I’ve never been on it and planned to hike it tomorrow. Guess I’ll be waiting.

Owl Point / Old Vista Ridge trail very difficult
The blow down on the old vista ridge trail bringing the hiker to Owl point, Katsuk Point and Red Hill is very difficult going with a large number of blow downs. If you don’t know where the old vista Ridge trail starts off of the Vista Ridge trail, you’ll have a hard time spotting the sign but it is ...
