Re: 2022 and Beyond - Snow Levels

Snow Report for Paradise Park: July 22-23rd: Some small snow patches from Timberline Lodge to Paradise Park Trail along the PCT. One couple I encountered seemed intimidated going up the Paradise Park trail from the PCT since they lost the trail once or twice, but nothing too tough. Pup and I made it...

Re: PCT Section hike cut short (Timberline Lodge to Salvation Springs)

Did this hike this week and much has been done. Still some trees on the trail about 2 miles beyond Salvation Springs for about 5 mi. But only one was tricky. The rest were typical over or under - a lot of under so prepare for the dirt. Slows you down a lot as well. Made it thru to Eagle Creek and t...

Re: Three Sisters: my first multi-day and the pups last long trek

...We were going to take our lab, but we learned on earlier backpacking trips this year she really doesn't do well in the heat and we also had a friend who did the loop last year and warned us about some of the rough trail so we've opted to leave her with her dogsitter for this trip... Thanks for r...

Three Sisters: my first multi-day and the pups last long trek

Considering how popular this trail is, I wasn't sure another trip report would be helpful. However, as a newbie for this area, I gobbled up every trip report I could find on here while planning for this trip so I figured why the heck not. Also, this was my old pup's first and last long distance, mul...

Re: Trail Conditions Three Sisters Loop

We backpacked it the first week of August. Started at Lava Camp, and found the NE portion to not only be very dry but surprisingly a bit more tough than we thought. Who knew scaling 500 down trees would be a bit tiring  As Jerry mentioned, Soap Creek was flowing beautifully. Lots of muddy strea...

Re: PCT Section hike cut short (Timberline Lodge to Salvation Springs)

Thanks for the update, Tom! Heard on a FB group they spent 5 days in there clearing trees  Must've been real bad.

PCT Section hike cut short (Timberline Lodge to Salvation Springs)

Goal: Timberline Lodge to Bridge of the Gods Start Date: July 3rd End Point: Lolo Pass TH Fiancée dropped the pup and I off at Timberline early on the 3rd just as the trail crew was gathering. We unfortunately headed off in front of them so the tree climbing commenced. Nothing too bad and the 8-year...

Re: Eagle Creek 2021.07.02

I wonder how scruffy the camps are. In my experience trail teams aren't very motivated to clean up campsites, and they have had three years to grow in. Some probably were too compacted to grow in that quickly, but not all. And a campsite can be obliterated by down trees too. Many old sites are. We ...

Re: Bald Mountain from Lolo Pass 2021.06.21

Nah, this is helpful. I don't mind tree hopping at all -- just didn't want to put myself in a SAR situation, especially over the busy holiday weekend. Much appreciated!
