Re: PCT Section hike cut short (Timberline Lodge to Salvation Springs)

Thanks for the update, Tom! Heard on a FB group they spent 5 days in there clearing trees  Must've been real bad.

PCT Section hike cut short (Timberline Lodge to Salvation Springs)

Goal: Timberline Lodge to Bridge of the Gods Start Date: July 3rd End Point: Lolo Pass TH Fiancée dropped the pup and I off at Timberline early on the 3rd just as the trail crew was gathering. We unfortunately headed off in front of them so the tree climbing commenced. Nothing too bad and the 8-year...

Re: Eagle Creek 2021.07.02

I wonder how scruffy the camps are. In my experience trail teams aren't very motivated to clean up campsites, and they have had three years to grow in. Some probably were too compacted to grow in that quickly, but not all. And a campsite can be obliterated by down trees too. Many old sites are. We ...

Re: Bald Mountain from Lolo Pass 2021.06.21

Nah, this is helpful. I don't mind tree hopping at all -- just didn't want to put myself in a SAR situation, especially over the busy holiday weekend. Much appreciated!

Re: Bald Mountain from Lolo Pass 2021.06.21

Tree after tree after tree. And they're all a pain in some way: lots of messy brush, chest high, the trail edge where you need to stand has been completely obliterated by the people who came through before you, etc. No individual one was actually difficult to get past, but they were just constant, ...

Re: 2021 Bug Conditions Reports

06/25-06/26: Backpack from Warren Lake over Mt Defiance to several lakes, overnight at Wahtum Lake and back (Mark O. Hatfield Wilderness/northside Mt Hood NF). Warren Lake was lovely -- very few bugs. The rest of the lakes were really buggy, but Wahtum was the worst. Lots of flies at night in camp. ...

Re: Tarbell TH (north) to Silver Star Summit Loop, 06/19/21

Ah, so we missed each other. I know you saw my South TR from Saturday. I saw a lot of people, but would have remembered your woofer. Surprised to hear you picked up a tick. I once had to extract one on Starway Trail, but I had hiked in the gorge the prior day, so I wondered if maybe it was left ove...

Tarbell TH (north) to Silver Star Summit Loop, 06/19/21

As a big fan of loops, I decided to try a new (to me) way up Silver Star as a training hike for some upcoming backpacks. Obes and I headed out from the Tarbell TH (north off L-1210) around 9am this past Saturday. Small lot, but no issues finding a spot. A couple picnic tables and one spot that looke...
