Re: The worlds largest Christmas Trees. Goat Marsh - Toutle Trail - Red Rock pass

Like I was saying in the video the largest known noble fir isn't in its prime. There are only a few branches with some needles. I'm amazed these big trees stay alive with the same amount of needles as a 10' tall tree would have. I imagine the growth rings would be micro small at this point in its li...

The worlds largest Christmas Trees. Goat Marsh - Toutle Trail - Red Rock pass

A couple of years ago I posted a topic asking about the Nobel Firs in and around the Goat Mash RNA. I was looking for information on the largest trees in the area. My wife and I went exploring and found the world's largest known Noble Fir. I'm pretty sure this is also the area that has the second hi...

Re: The other stone arch

Nice!

I'm going to be trying to figure out the trail with the mark "Rock of Ages" for awhile. It looks like it may take some serious planning, trial, and error.

Re: Cedar Mountain-twice

Yep, that sounds like the place. Both times I/we opted to go up table since we knew the PCT was up there, instead of following the Hamilton Creek trail when we had no idea where that'd end. It'd be great going across the creek and proceeding to climb table. The Cedar falls way is really a neat trail...

Re: The other stone arch

Hi Raven, It was very walkable up top. I actually found the trail from when I got lost going up rock of ages in winter and very* thankfully found the old trail that splits off of this one before the ridge. Do you know of that old one too? There is even an old bridge, it's in the creek area.. We just...

The other stone arch

Instead of going up rock of ages we went up the other ridge of horsetail. To our surprise there is another stone arch on the other side. It didn't look like many people go up there, so I'm not sure if it's well known?.

Re: Cedar Mountain-twice

You'd like it guy. There's that really nice trail by cedar falls down to the big cottonwoods. That area by the cottonwoods is more or less flat and you can follow the flats (to the north) where you'll see more big firs and cedars. Eventually it will funnel down into a single path about 200' above ha...

Re: Cedar Mountain-twice

Yeah I really like this area too. If you follow the trail by the big cottonwoods, by Hamilton creek, you get that little trail with ropes(~10 of them) for the steep parts.. To get back to the PCT from where it ends is difficult though.

Wow, that's a tall waterfall. Nice find. I'll put it in my back pocket to check it out in winter

Re: Measuring A Big Cedar

I went up there and found the cedar grove there. Impressive stuff. Don's pictures remind me of said grove. Nice, I was wondering if anyone else had been there. I was also really impressed. I just got back from a 6-7 month stint in Virginia so I went back to the big bottom area since its relatively ...
