Re: Area by Indian Heaven - First Real Snow

You do a really nice job with the videos. I'm envious about the range of edible mushrooms that you found. I can usually get my fill of chanterelles and lobsters but only rarely see others. Maybe I need to head to higher altitudes. Thanks for pointing this out. That's why I mention 'by Indian Heaven...

Area by Indian Heaven - First Real Snow

I made a video of my trip up there last weekend. It was really starting to snow on Sunday! I go over some mushroom hunting trips, but there is plenty of footage of the area around there. Check out some of my other videos too. Most of them are off tail areas as I like to explore. https://www.youtube....

Re: Green River Trail MSH

I didn't know about it until after the video. It seems hard to believe they would consider putting a mine in up there. There are more trails up on goat mountain too. I see one goes to Deadman's lake etc. I had great video of the river. I was thinking it probably supports salmon/steelhead and the lin...

Re: Green River Trail MSH

It was trail 213. I went up to the Randle route since that's what showed as being the fastest from Portland. It's paved all the way to the turn off at Ryan Lake. I followed that FR 2612 as far as I felt comfortable (I have a Tesla Model 3). It isn't so much that the road is rough, it's one of those ...

Green River Trail MSH

The Green River Valley North of Mt. St. Helens has some of the best examples of PNW old growth forest. This section of primordial forest is basically untouched. It was shielded from the 1980 eruption by Mt. Venus. It is little disturbed except for a few trails going through it. It is far away from a...

Re: Vista Ridge Trailhead to Elk Cove

It was an iPhone picture. Just using whatever its defaults are. If you watch the video that's just a series of pictures too but off an action camera.

Re: Vista Ridge Trailhead to Elk Cove

Interesting factoid: That is, I believe, the lowest perennial snow on Hood. That's pretty cool. It makes sense too since it's the north side and doesn't get as much sun. It would certainly be easy to get to it and check it out. I would have, if I had started the hike before 1 pm. I wonder if it's g...

Vista Ridge Trailhead to Elk Cove

September 2021 hike from Vista Ridge Trailhead to Elk Cove. Vista Ridge starts on the north west Side of Mt. Hood and connects with the Timberline trail at the tree line. I followed the trail North through Wy' East Basin and up to Elk Cove. I found what looks to be an ice cave in a small glacier nex...

Re: The worlds largest Christmas Trees. Goat Marsh - Toutle Trail - Red Rock pass

Like I was saying in the video the largest known noble fir isn't in its prime. There are only a few branches with some needles. I'm amazed these big trees stay alive with the same amount of needles as a 10' tall tree would have. I imagine the growth rings would be micro small at this point in its li...

The worlds largest Christmas Trees. Goat Marsh - Toutle Trail - Red Rock pass

A couple of years ago I posted a topic asking about the Nobel Firs in and around the Goat Mash RNA. I was looking for information on the largest trees in the area. My wife and I went exploring and found the world's largest known Noble Fir. I'm pretty sure this is also the area that has the second hi...
