Re: PCT to Sedum Ridge Trail

I enjoyed the same hike myself this week, opposite direction. Love that section of the PCT that goes through the massive alder stands along the creek, and of course the decaying mossy bridges on the SR trail. Left my bike at the PCT junction and used that for my shuttle-fun downhill! I did see this ...

Re: Augspurger Mt, alleged "Cascade Crest Trail", powerline loop

Sketchy fun! It's a little loose. Not bad going up, but need serious focus and test each block when going down.

I recommend not smoking pot until after you get back on the road. And bring an emergency beacon thing like the Inreach so you wont have to sever a Weblimb.

Re: Grassy Knoll via old PCT and south ridge

Beag says there is CCT trail from Aug to Triangle Pass:
We did not find 100% of CCT but we did complete a trail from N Aug to TP using maybe 80% of old trail. There are still CCT markers on a few trees.

Re: Augspurger Mt, alleged "Cascade Crest Trail", powerline loop

Hmmm I wonder what Chip's mystery thing is. My guess is (what I call) the basalt nubbin. Yes-a road leads close to it! basalt nubbin.jpg Nat- yes I did find the rubble configuration strange. Had my lunch on the highest rockpile, but it was far from the base of the cliffs- as if it had been pushed. I...

Re: Earth Day in Spring Basin Wilderness - 04/22/2021

It was in Spring Basin Canyon proper, SW of the Horse Mountain ridgeline. Now that I look at my track, I didnt make it to the place marked spring on the USGS map, this spring was further "upstream". So there may be another spring further down.

Re: Earth Day in Spring Basin Wilderness - 04/22/2021

Hey, I just came back from there! I arrived in the evening and backpacked in a short distance carrying an extra gallon of water. Woke up early and did the loop up and over Horse Mountain-fabulous ridge walking! The swaths of phlox were a surprising bonus. swathofphlox.JPG phlox valley.JPG I also vis...

Re: Augspurger Mt, alleged "Cascade Crest Trail", powerline loop

I've taken two recent trips exploring this area, namely trying to get to the cliffs and big scree field to the SW of Augsperger Mountain. It can be seen in Chip's GE image in the bottom left corner: AugMtOverview.jpg I've always been intrigued by this low forested valley between Dog, Aug and Wind-fl...

Re: Idaho Snake River Trail: 4/15/21-4/17/21

Thanks for sharing your adventure Brad! Love all the history. I remember hiking the Rogue River and the wondrous feeling encountering some of the old cabins and homesteads. So neat to hike through the canyon and ponder about what life would like living year round in a remote wild place like that. Tr...

Re: Northern MSH (Vanson Peak/Goat Mt Ridge): Snow-free mid/late June?

The tricky part will be getting to the Ryan Lake trailhead. You have to go via FS 25 and 99 to 26 past Norway Pass. Sometimes that doesn't open until July. I think you could approach earlier in the season (and a shorter drive) using the Goat Creek Trail to Vanson Peak. It starts south of Riffe Lake ...
