Re: 2021 Bug Conditions Reports

Hordes of mosquitos on the west side of Jefferson, above 5800' in the area of Coyote Lake. They weren't so bad down lower.

Re: Coldwater Peak Trail Info

As of 6/20, there's still a lot of snow at the junction with the Coldwater trail. I'd give it another week or two.

Re: 2021 Snow Level

Spent yesterday on the West side of Mt. Jefferson after snagging a last minute permit for Pamelia lake entry. On the Hunts Creek trail, patches of snow started about 4700' and became more persistent above 5000'. Hanks lake was maybe 10% melted out, and the bowl was still holding a bunch of snow. Hun...

Re: 2021 Snow Level

Backpacked to Wahtum Lake over the weekend, up Herman Creek and down the PCT along Benson. There were patches of snow above 3500', the only real continuous stretch of snow was the end of Herman Creek from Tomlike junction down to the PCT. All snow was firm, for this trip the spikes were just trainin...

Who's to say it's snow?

That water could have come from anywhere.

Re: 2021 Snow Level

Hit Green Point Mountain 5/9, up Gorton Creek and down Nick Eaton. The first patches of snow on the trail started about 3300', but it stayed patchy up through the junction with Nick Eaton. Continuing up Gorton snow is continuous above 4000', and 4-5' deep past the junction with the Plateau Cutoff tr...

Re: 5/6/2021 – Nick Eaton Ridge Flower Bloom

Not that it makes much difference, but the yellow version of those flowers in the second photo are called Glacier Lilies, while the white version are called Avalanche Lilies. It took me the longest time to memorize which color went with which name. ;) I usually just guess, knowing I have a 50-50 sh...
