Re: 2022 and Beyond - Snow Levels

Hiked up the PCT towards Benson yesterday, the goal just being to reach the snowline. After seeing such low snow last week, I thought I would hit snow around 2000 feet, but it was much higher, about 3000 feet, a few hundred yards before the red rock viewpoint. Since I was in a fog bank, I saw no po...

Cooper Spur 2024/03/16

Photo of the Day: DSC02631.JPG A buddy and I took advantage of the first really good spring weekend to pop up to Cooper Spur. The forecast called for warm weather, clear skies, and calm winds. On a lot of the spur the winds turned out to be a little more than I would call "calm", but two out of thre...

Re: 2022 and Beyond - Snow Levels

Went up Nick Eaton to the junction with the Ridge Cutoff trail, just below Peak 3152. Snow was as deep as 1.5-2' towards the top, depending on drifts. Snow condition was great, fairly fresh. Not a dry powder, but no crunchy layer on top and not too slushy. DSC02481.JPG Beautiful day. DSC02503.JPG

Re: The gorge, after all this weather

I hiked up to Triple Falls from the Horsetail Falls TH on Monday. There was one big tree that fell and is blocking a few switchbacks on the section heading down to the first bridge after Horsetail Falls. There were a couple other stepovers here and there. Overall not too bad, but it seems like the w...

Re: Adams Round the Mountain 2023/08/25-27

You did this trip during a heat wave and yet were able to rock hop all but one of the supposedly difficult crossings, you didn't even mention the Muddy Forks after Devils Garden. That's the one thing that surprises me about your report. Was there water at Sunrise Camp all day, or just in the aftern...

Adams Round the Mountain 2023/08/25-27

Photo of the Days: DSC09115.JPG Between work schedules, wildfire smoke, and the limited dates of the Yakama opening, all the stars aligned to head up to Mount Adams to hike all the way Round the Mountain. And what a hike it is! The trip reports from this site, in particular those from Born2BBrad, pr...

Re: South Cinder Peak (July 22, 2023)

Great report of a rarely (never?) reported route. Glad you got clear days. Just hiked and drove through the smoke of the Bedrock Fire. Cut my visit to McKenzie Pass short. Couldn't see the Sisters from Sisters. A buddy and I went to climb South Sister this past Saturday the 22nd. We got very lucky ...

Re: Lolo Pass

Does anyone know if Lolo Pass road is still closed? The FS Alerts page linked earlier in the thread doesn't have any mention of a Lolo Pass closure, and the FS road info page lists Lolo Pass road as open https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/mthood/alerts-notices/?cid=stelprdb5191108 . It's been a month, s...
