Re: comet neowise
Mine was from last week sometime, and it does seem to be dimming lately. Also, photoshop doesn't seem to merge star fields well. This ended up being the hardest edit I've ever done (stitching 42 photos manually), and it still kinda looks like crap. But the concept was there. 550 megapixels total, ta...

Forgotten Trail Along West Fork of the Hood River?
So I was out exploring the other day, and decided to make an attempt at Marco Creek Falls (45.505140, -121.752060). The area had been thinned for logging and I figured it would be easy getting down to the river. This turned out to be true! I got down to the river with relative ease, then trekked ups...

Re: Seeking: Volcano Viewpoints
Do you use an indexing rotator to make all that tilt/pan easier? Edit- I was thinking a different thing. It wouldn't be a bad idea. Still I haven't yet. My tripod head has a compass on it, but I have done pretty well eyeballing it. (occasionally I'll screw up, but it's uncommon enough that I don't ...

Re: Seeking: Volcano Viewpoints
Curious to know what equipment and software you use to produce these remarkable photos and how long does it take to do one like your photo of Mt. Hood. Kind of embarrassingly, it's nothing particularly novel except photoshop and patience. I have a Sony a7r2 (the camera is quite a few years old now,...

Re: Seeking: Volcano Viewpoints
...there is a different breed of mountain out east, every bit as worthy of your attention: Wallowas, 7 Devils, Steens, etc. That actually sounds like an awesome idea. "Cascade Volcanoes" was an initial, arbitrary, somewhat achievable target anyways. I've always wanted to make it down to Steens, esp...

Oh, that looks perfect! I was worried about there being trees in the way but that looks great!

Re: Seeking: Volcano Viewpoints
I have no issue hiking/backpacking/overnighting for a view (even going off trail a bit)... The things I would like to avoid are outright trespassing and excessive bodily risk.

Re: Seeking: Volcano Viewpoints
The other tricky bit of this will be timing. Like, I'd love to capture each of them with a fresh coat of snow (I personally find the melty-summer snow to be an eyesore) and either at dusk/dawn or with light clouds, no direct sunlight. (I'm hoping for a lenticular cloud over one of them, likely Shast...

Re: Seeking: Volcano Viewpoints
A note if you want to know more, I shot the first two with a Sony a7r2 and a 200mm lens. Hood's panorama used about 125 photos and Helens' used approximately 70. As for style, I just want them to be about the same size and prominence in frame (no foreground trees, nothing cluttering the shape itself...
