Brush Creek

I went up to the brush creek trail head to see if anything had been done. The young pine trees have shaded out the Snow Brush and by following them I was able to avoid the bad brush areas and was able to get to the summit of the ridge where it was easy going through the Manzanita. Don’t go to far so...

Re: 2020 Snow Level

Linda and I drove up the road that goes to the Cabot Lake trailhead. We got within 1.4 miles of the road that leaves NF-1230 and goes to the trailhead.

Brush Creek

From the Brush Creek trailhead it used to be possible to go south to the edge of the Brush Creek Canyon and then turn west going up the ridge to intersect the original trail. From that point it was easy to follow the trail all the way to the PCT. It has been several years since I did this. I tried y...

Update on Bear Valley Lake Trail

Linda and I have cleared 0.7 miles of the Bear Valley Lake Trail and have reached the end of the bad Snowbrush area. We are now making the final touches to this section of the trail. Today I removed four small trees from the trail and widened about 30 yards of trail where the brush was to close to t...

Minto Lake Trail

A volunteer crew has cleared the Minto Lake trail. This trail was heavily impacted in the 2003 B&B fire. I walked up this trail today from Wasco Lake to Minto Lake. The trail is in very good condition. The trail is open all the way to the PCT. This would make a nice loop walk from the Jack Lake trai...

Bear Valley Trail

My friend Linda and I have decided to try to open the Bear Valley Trail. Linda got permission from the Forest Service to work on this trail. This trail is NOT the Rockpile Lake trail which also leaves from this trailhead parking area. I hiked on this trail before the B&B fire. This trail went to Bea...
