Re: Riverside Trail-Ferry Springs Loop (April 7)

Interesting! I did notice it was pretty lush where the trail crosses the springs... but yes, lots of agriculture going on upstream, so if it's not cow-borne creepy crawlies, it could be ag chemicals working their way down that draw....

Riverside Trail-Ferry Springs Loop (April 7)

Bright sunshine and puffy clouds east of the mountains on Sunday while Portland endured a reprise of Saturday's downpours (or so the stream of text messages from my wife told me throughout the day!). Well, that's why we go east this time of year! The wildflowers are nice, too, of course... :D If you...

Crawford Oaks/Vista Loop (Columbia Hills) - March 30

Posting this a week later, but thought I'd share flower status at Columbia Hills State Park. As of last Saturday, the Balsamroot were just starting up on the lower slopes, along the clifftops below the Vista Loop. Lupine were still just budding, even at that elevation, so plenty of time before the r...

Nice report, Gordon! Love that area -- I get over there most years in early May, before the place gets quite busy from Memorial Day into fall. Your photos have me champing at the bit... :D

Thanks for posting!

Nice report, John - thanks! I've tried propagating Golden currant from cuttings with no luck... I'd really like to add a few to my home landscape. Lovely plants!

Labyrinth Trail (March 16)

A few photos from my second trip to the Labyrinth in two weeks (I'd taken an old friend up there on March 8 but didn't want to slow him down with hundreds of photos...) :D The Grass Widows are peaking, but the rest of the flower show is just getting into high gear -- and, notably, the poison oak has...
