Re: Triple Falls on a snowy day

Thanks for posting, Don! This was a TKO project over the past year+ and officially reopened about three weeks ago. Many volunteer outings to put the trail back together! I haven't worked on this project, but I do believe TKO crews have logged out and repaired the trail beyond the new bridge at Tripl...

Re: All of Oregon’s Wildernesses

Wow! Truly impressive, John! Love that your list is in order of enactment -- a reminder that none of these came easily, and are a product of nearly 60 years of effort by conservationists and lawmakers.

Re: Return to Eagle Creek

That's probably true, Dean. A really good example (in the same geologic formation) is over by the Stark Street Bridge over the Sandy River. That wall has collapsed on a number of occasions, sometimes in a very big way. It's a really weak geologic layer, but it's also one of the main reasons we have ...

Re: Return to Eagle Creek

Ha! Thanks, Adam... two+ years later, but helpful edits are always timely... but I'm actually not finding any (at least not to my sense of left and right... much less right and wrong!)

Re: Return to Eagle Creek

Described in detail in this blog post from 2018: Cliff Collapse at Punch Bowl Falls! It hasn't changed much since the aerials in the blog post were taken... some of the smaller debris has been removed after a couple of winters of runoff, logs rearranged, but still very raw. Even in low water, you wi...

Re: Return to Eagle Creek

Thanks for the inspiration, Dean -- I went up there on Sunday. As you predicted, not overwhelmingly crowded in the AM (more so by the early afternoon). I only went as far as Skoonichuk Falls... the burn definitely gets more intense at that point. Lots of people making their way down to the confusing...

Re: Major Expansion of the Mount Hood National Recreation Area Proposed

Thanks for the posts -- I can respond on some of the questions, since I've been immersed in this stuff for awhile! @Charley -- yes, the Boulder Lakes wilderness additions were designed to keep some key mountain bike trails intact. That was largely the work of Matt Weintraub -- who recently relocated...

Major Expansion of the Mount Hood National Recreation Area Proposed

Some big news from Senator Wyden and Rep. Blumenauer -- a major expansion of the Mount Hood National Recreation Area that would cover most of the north half of Mount Hood National Forest, expand wilderness protection here and there, and (most importantly) shift USFS management from timber production...

Re: Founds: Pair of black earbuds

:D

Wildcat, what is TRULY amazing is how they were both lifted by that freak west wind and somehow deposited within 12" of each other 30 miles to the east... just think of the odds!
