Re: Marion Lake Trailhead conditions..?

Nope, I'm going to hold off a bit... 4,000 feet seems to be right at the margins for remaining snowpack, especially as you head south. I think Pamelia is a bit lower than that... more like 3,500 feet?

Marion Lake Trailhead conditions..?

Anyone tried to reach the Marion Lake trailhead this spring? The SNOTEL readings are all over the map -- some as high as 5600 feet in the area showing little or no snow, others at 4200 feet showing 20+ inches remaining. Marion is at about 4,000. Hoping to get to Marion and Gatch Falls. Thanks! Tom :-)

Re: Coos Bay to Bandon 1-23 to 1-25-19

Nice South Coast tour, John! We traveled through there last September, but were en route to the Redwoods and didn't have much time to explore. It's so very lonely compared to the North Coast! BTW, hope you were able to stop at Edgewaters in Bandon for some seafood -- a nice, rustic restaurant with a...

Cougar!! That’s pretty cool. I have yet to see one in the wild. Love the second lake photo - very nice!

Re: New Year's Day 2019 Coldwater snowshoe

Nice photos, Nat! This spot is on my list of “embarrassed to admit I’ve never been there”..! Someday. The first photo is really nice - at first glance it could be the White Mountains in NH with the alder framing the view.

Thanks, John - great post! I'm a big chicken when it comes to the mines in that area... scary!

Not too bad, now -- by Coast Range standards, anyway! A few small lakes to navigate along the way...

Re: Bennett Pass Snowshoe (Dec 31)

When I was still skiing the resorts I was strictly a midweek, swing shift skier through January (usually at Ski Bowl if they had snow -- love the upper bowl!), then shifted over to Meadows in February (still swing shift), then would venture up on weekends in March until the season was over. Loved sp...
