Re: Sand Ridge Loop, Pasayten Wilderness?

To answer my own question having done this last week: Route finding is pretty easy, views are nice, highly recommended.

Re: Sheep Canyon Loop - 2020-08-24

How long is this loop? Can you provide any more specific information on the route, etc. please?

Thanks,
Keith

Re: Timberline Loop (Clockwise). August 27-31, 2020

I've hiked that loop a couple of times, most recently last year. You're right about that last segment to the Lodge: it's hot, dusty, too near the road and it's close proximity to ski routes makes it an unpleasant (by my standard) conclusion to an otherwise interesting route.

Billy Goat Trailhead to Whistler Pass Report

Here is a brief summary of our hike from the Billy Goat Trailhead to Whistler Pass in the Pasayten Wilderness. We planned to drive from Portland to the trailhead on Forest Road 5130 and camp the first night at Drake Creek. However, road repairs/construction on Route 20 delayed us sufficiently (and n...

Sand Ridge Loop, Pasayten Wilderness?

Anybody done the loop from McCall Gulch (or Corral Lake) in the Pasayten Wilderness around Sand Ridge lately? The west side is on an unmaintained trail (or perhaps cross country) back to trail 502 via Whistler Ridge. News on daytime temperature and routefinding will be appreciated!

Thanks,
Keith

Re: Timberline Trail July 23-26 2020

It's a bit worrisome that the Eliot Creek crossing is now so easy it can be jumped. It seems to suggest the glaciers are depleted and runoff is low. The two times I've done the loop in the past, the water level was high. Of course, one season does not a trend make, but the fact fits I'm afraid.

Re: Pasayten Wilderness—July 26-31

I know this is an old post but it's very helpful nonetheless. I'm going on nearly the same route next month. Going around Billy Goat Pass seems like a fine idea to me, especially as I'll be driving from Portland and hiking in the same day!

Thanks!

Re: Washington State Parks opening - Yeah!

I've read the online information and there's nothing about opening areas for backpacking (e.g., Pasaytan Wilderness). Any information on that issue will be appreciated!

Thanks,
Keith

Re: Timberline Trail section hiking: Cloud Cap to Newton Creek and back 7/20/19

Excellent post and photos. Thanks! Admittedly it's a value judgement, but the advent of trail running and the seemingly large number of participants somehow detracts from the "wilderness experience", at least for me and from a backpacker's perspective. I wonder if the focused attention to the trail ...
