Re: Elk lake creek from elk lake

Have you ever driven the road to Frazier turnaround? I've driven both and to me, Frazier turnaround is the worst. Both require high clearance vehicles for sure. Can confirm, Frazier turnaround is brutal! I somehow survived doing that in a Subaru impreza. :? I was planning on going to Elk lake creek...

Re: Gemstone ID

You can sometimes find amethyst in the vicinity of shellrock mountain in in the gorge, but that's the only Oregon locality I know of. (https://www.mindat.org/loc-131393.html) Interestingly enough this piece looks like it was placed there since it hardly looks water-worn. It's possible to find quartz...

Re: Mabee Mines

A few years ago I went and checked out a couple of the mines up past the Skamania mines road! The last chance mine was completely collapsed, but a little ways up is the yellowjacket mine, which we peeked in the entrance. I think the Mabee mine and the blackjack mine are even further up the same aban...

Re: November Backpack Location that Isn't Burned?

The enchantments are fun in November since you don't need permits after Oct 31st and it isn't crowded for once. Typically there's a few larches hanging in there, but it gets icy so avoid Aasgard pass and bring spikes.

They cleared the blowdown! I was up there last week (10/15). There was a lot more snow up there too.

Stuart and horseshoe lake

I should've posted this earlier did this trip about a week ago (10/3-4/20). I backpacked to Stuart lake and then dayhiked up to the lesser-known horseshoe lake. I'd gotten into Leavenworth late the night before and camped at Bridge creek CG. The Colchuck trailhead was predictably crowded, I ended up...

Re: Lamberson Butte new addition

Wait wait guys we have to coordinate. If one seismometer registers stomping it gets discounted as an anomaly. If we each go to a different seismometer and we all stomp at the same time it will register a quake! No I actually do support installing these seismometers, and I don't think it's too ...
