Cairn basin & McNeil point 8/25/19

Yesterday I returned to one of my favorite places on Mt. Hood: the northwest side. It's become a tradition for me to go up there around late summer/early fall every year. I brought a friend of mine who'd never been to the area before. Anyway, here's the photos: A grouse on the road, refusing to move...

Re: Hood: Muddy Fork north to Sandy Glacier, descent via Glisan Glacier

That prominent dike in the headwall of Muddy Fork Canyon is called Razorblade Pinnacle. I've been curious about what it looks like up close for a while. Apparently there's a few climbing routes on it.

Re: Smacked by tree loaded by snow

Happened to me up at Cooper Spur when we had that one massive powder dump this year. Big old white pine dropped all of its snow on me and a branch knocked my arm pretty hard on the way up. Knocked the ski pole out of my hand. Then again, not as bad as a friend of mine who was hit with a flying broke...

Re: "Clear pond" on Mt. Hood?

Well, even though Apple maps probably screwed up, I'd still like to search the area just to see what I find.

Re: "Clear pond" on Mt. Hood?

Actually, wait a minute... The text appears right where clear branch seems to originate. Is there a spring where the creek starts? That might be what it's referring to.

Re: "Clear pond" on Mt. Hood?

I'd also been around there before, and was wondering if I was missing out on a swimming hole or a tarn I didn't know. Then again, it's Apple Maps, I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up... It's probably just someone messing up with clear branch or clear lake. Thanks for the help, anyway.

"Clear pond" on Mt. Hood?

Ok so I usually don't use apple maps out of principle but since Mt. Hood has less snow cover in their satellite view than Google maps, I was using it to try to find that tiny meltwater lake right under Gladd ridge. Anyways, I saw this: IMG_0427.png Does anyone know what this might refer to? Is there...

Re: TR backlog: McNeil Point 10/14/18

The weather was just about perfect in late October last year. High of 65 or so, no bugs, fall colors still around... Freezes at night but that’s bound to happen.
