Re: "Clear pond" on Mt. Hood?

Well, even though Apple maps probably screwed up, I'd still like to search the area just to see what I find.

Re: "Clear pond" on Mt. Hood?

Actually, wait a minute... The text appears right where clear branch seems to originate. Is there a spring where the creek starts? That might be what it's referring to.

Re: "Clear pond" on Mt. Hood?

I'd also been around there before, and was wondering if I was missing out on a swimming hole or a tarn I didn't know. Then again, it's Apple Maps, I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up... It's probably just someone messing up with clear branch or clear lake. Thanks for the help, anyway.

"Clear pond" on Mt. Hood?

Ok so I usually don't use apple maps out of principle but since Mt. Hood has less snow cover in their satellite view than Google maps, I was using it to try to find that tiny meltwater lake right under Gladd ridge. Anyways, I saw this: IMG_0427.png Does anyone know what this might refer to? Is there...

Re: TR backlog: McNeil Point 10/14/18

The weather was just about perfect in late October last year. High of 65 or so, no bugs, fall colors still around... Freezes at night but that’s bound to happen.

TR backlog: McNeil Point 10/14/18

I know it's late but I just joined the site and thought I should share some photos from some trips from over the summer. In late October I did went on a day hike up to McNeil Point to catch the last of the fall colors. Anyway, here's the pics: IMG_0052.jpeg IMG_0051.jpeg IMG_0020.jpeg IMG_0028.jpeg ...

Parkdale Fire Station

I guess this is somewhat Mt. Hood related... I was recently doing an AIARE class, whose classroom session was conducted in the Parkdale Fire Station. We took over the main lobby for the class, then moved to the break room for lunch. In the break room, on the table with the TV, was this abomination: ...

Re: Winter access to McNeil Point area?

Any idea when they'll reopen the Laurance lake road? Also, if I could get up there in the winter, I'd probably go from there towards Snowdome or Langille crags instead of hiking around to McNeil point.

Re: White River West Sno Park

The canyon can be a bit of a labyrinth if you go off trail, so just in case if you end up getting lost in the white river canyon area, find a creek. The canyon has several tributaries that all converge into the white river, which the highway crosses over. If you follow a creek down the canyon (caref...

Re: Winter access to McNeil Point area?

without avalanche training and understanding of the cycles and current conditions, yes. But to suggest climbing around the mountain in the winter begs an avalanche is overstating things a lot. Of course, of course (it's a hyperbole, overstating things is the point). Nevertheless, even if good ol' C...
