I've found a few small airplanes and at least one helicopter, but never a jet airliner.

Also, note that once it does re-open, the closest trailhead to Park Ridge (Breitenbush Lake) is at the end of a horrible road.

Oh, you were on the NORTH end of Ninemile Ridge. Skyline Road is FR 31, and it accesses the south end of the ridge at a much higher elevation. That's probably not open.

Although it was snowing while I was hiking Ninemile Ridge, nothing accumulated, and was snow free on the trail except for a few sections near the summit on the north facing slopes.

So is Skyline Road fully open?

By the way: what part of Ninemile Ridge? I'd think it would still be buried in snow.

This purple plant might be in the mustard family, was growing in masses near some of the moister areas. Blue mustard. It's an invasive weed. I saw one last year on the Pebble Creek Trail. (Just one, though.)

After reading the comments, I think I would like something similar to the view of Mt Adams from High Camp, if that is even possible in the Paradise area. Then try the trails west and north of Panorama Point: Glacier Vista, Upper Skyline, and Pebble Creek. This is from Glacier Vista, about 1.4 trail...

The view of Rainier from the top of Pinnacle Peak is pretty awesome.

It's about 19 miles up the Wind River Road to Road 6507 and then 4.6 miles to Road 65 then a left turn a short distance to the trail head parking. Is this what you refer to as the "detour"??
