St Helen's 9/10/23
My friend got permits for a party of 6 to summit St Helen's. We arrived at the trailhead and started hiking around 9am. The climb through the forest was very gentle, and there were plenty of huckleberries to snack on along the way. We reached a view point where we could see Mt Hood and Adams, but it...

Re: Packwood Lake Resort
Yeah, it was pretty crowded when we were there. If I could do it all over again, and had an unlimited budget for new toys, I would tow a canoe in using an ATV on the OHV trail, paddle to the other side of the lake to get away from everyone and set up there. Then use the canoe for fishing. But I don'...

Re: Trail going west of Ice Lake
Ooh, do you happen to have any GPS info on those from horseshoe or razz lake? Or are they pretty easy to find?

Trail going west of Ice Lake
Does anyone know if this trail from Ice Lake to the Matterhorn summit and beyond (in red) is at all maintained/easy to follow? Matterhorn.PNG I am trying to plan some kind of loop hike in the Wallowas for early September, and I was hoping to summit one peak along the way. This looked like a good opt...

Re: Jefferson Park Fishing?
When I was camped at Russell lake on the PCT last year, I saw a beautiful brookie jump out of the water right in front of my face while I was eating dinner near shore. I was so sad that I didn't have my fly rod!

Re: Packwood Lake Resort
Oh yikes, that's not great. Sounds like it wasn't being run as well as Olallie Lake resort. Maybe there are some who think it shouldn't exist either, but I enjoyed it when I stopped there on the PCT last year.

Packwood Lake Resort
While camping at Packwood lake this weekend, a Forest Ranger came and talked to our group. He told us that our campsite was where the Packwood Lake Resort camp store once stood. He described the resort and it sounded very similar to Olallie Lake - a rustic resort with cabins to rent and a small stor...

Snow-free camping options
I am looking for a place to camp for next weekend that is out of the snow, preferably next to some kind of body of water with some day hikes nearby. I have an injury so I'm unable to backpack at the moment. Would prefer a more dispersed-camping experience rather than a place that requires reservatio...

Re: Upper Clackamas and Collowash
That is great news about the fishing in Round Lake! Were there a lot of other campers? I have not had a chance to make it there this year, but it's on the list for next year.
