Re: Grassy Knoll, 5/31/2021

We camped at the Big Huckleberry PCT camp last Tuesday and there was a nearby slope with a bit of dirty snow measuring perhaps 20 feet x 10 feet or so, but that was it. I imagine it'll be gone in the next week or two. Welcome, Alex! Indeed, the road is much improved. I've been meaning to get to Big ...

Re: Grassy Knoll via old PCT and south ridge

Thank you - this is exactly what I was looking for. If we do actually do the CCT hike, it wouldn't be until August so I'll keep watching this thread to see if anyone does further investigation over the coming months. The fallback plan would just be to go further east towards Goat Point, then back we...

Re: Grassy Knoll via old PCT and south ridge

Hi Sean, I'm tempted to tell you you're crazy, but you probably already know that. And anyway, it would be a pot/kettle situation. --Yep, it's a little crazy, but part of the reason for doing this is because at some point I would like to do the entire PCT, so by doing the CCT this year it's d...

Re: Grassy Knoll via old PCT and south ridge

If you have a track that would be awesome! As for the maps in the High Trails CCT book it actually looks like the route they show does go east around LWR - so I was wrong in trying to find a more direct route. Beag says there is CCT trail from Aug to Triangle Pass: We did not find 100% of CCT but we...

Re: Grassy Knoll via old PCT and south ridge

My wife and I had plans to hike the PCT last year, then again this year and cancelled both times due to the pandemic. However, we're half-vaxed and will be fully vaxed next month, and we're giving serious thought to doing just the Washington PCT (I know, "just"!). However, I want to add a twist to i...

Re: Doing Thru Hike Of Chinook Trail - Need Help From Wahtum Lake To Troutdale

I'll have to see how it goes, and if I have service, especially the first 3-4 days, as well as the last 3-4 days. It also depends on how late I arrive in towns where I do have service. I'd say my goal is to do daily reports, but what I envision is that I'll probably have the first 6-7 days posted by...

Excellent suggestion - I should have noticed that before. Thank you - I will definitely take the route you suggest!

I see you have elected to include part of Timberline Trail, which puts you on Highway 26 for a significant distance. I suggest a small change to reduce this.

Re: Paradise Trail - significant tree fall.

As part of my Chinook Trail hike I need to go from the PCT to Camp Kiwanas to attend the ALDHA-West Gathering there, and my current plan is to come down on the Hidden Lake trail instead of the Paradise Park trail. It sounds like despite recent work on the Paradise trail, I should probably stick to m...

Re: Doing Thru Hike Of Chinook Trail - Need Help From Wahtum Lake To Troutdale

If anyone's interested, my first article on my upcoming hike of the Chinook Trail just went up on The Trek's website (it's a pre-hike post, I don't start until October 1):

Re: Doing Thru Hike Of Chinook Trail - Need Help From Wahtum Lake To Troutdale

Yes, I've seen that report/page and it's been a great help. Like you, I've only heard of the two of them, as well as Allgood and the two hikers with him (one was Liz "Snorkel" Thomas) doing the complete thru hike. However, someone said there has been as many as 10-12 people complete it. As far as I ...
