Nice! Thanks for the tip.
I would hate to wait for September and be smoked out. But I know what you mean.

Re: Eliot Branch crossing conditions?
I'm sure to the others who were crossing late afternoon, it looked like I had never crossed a stream before. But my very deliberate behavior was a direct result of the traumatic experience in the morning. Here's my GPS showing how much I wandered around at the Eliot crossing (both coming and going) ...

Re: Eliot Branch crossing conditions?
Here's more detail... The stream I thought was a raging torrent in most places. The speed of the water was definitely intimidating, not to mention the frothy roiling current. eliot-branch.jpg I looked from various vantage points and did not see a big downed log that could handle two people walking a...

Re: Eliot Branch crossing conditions?
Answering my own question on Eliot branch:
Certainly challenging. I don't know if the stream crossing or the ascent up the wall of loose rock and dirt was more dangerous.

Eliot Branch crossing conditions in July 2021?
Has anyone ventured from Cloud Cap across Eliot Branch (and generally counter-clockwise on Timberline Trail from there) recently? If so, what was the Eliot Branch crossing like this year?
Thank you!
Thank you!

Re: Timberline Trail section hiking: Topspur-Bald Mountain-Cairn Basin-Wyeast Basin-Elk Cove and back 8/4/20
I have to admit I was pretty distracted at the meadow, lining up my next panorama. But then when the "Timberline Trail" I thought I was on turned into little more than a cowpath, something seemed way off.
Thank you!
Thank you!

Here's the map of Mt. Hood area 360 panoramic scenes I've shot and put online (there's a few in the backlog waiting to be processed):

My first guess was some sort of geocache.
Thank you all for satisfying my curiosity--I'm not that tempted to go back.

Re: Off trail excursion leads to mysterious shrine on tree east of Mt. Hood
Forgot to mention the scale -- it didn't seem like a chair that would fit an adult, more child-sized. I didn't notice that padding-like thing was underneath the mesh rather than on top of it. But a hunting related object would make sense, and explain the need for a viewshed.
