Re: Eagle Creek trail reopens \o/ plus other reopenings

I noticed that the map showed the Eagle-Benson trail as open too. Does anyone who's been by that area have any updates on the its status? Someone in the trip reports forum posted that Indian Springs is basically gone even though it's marked as open, but I didn't see any word on Eagle-Benson.

Re: Eagle Creek trail reopens \o/ plus other reopenings

I updated OpenStreetMap with the latest re-openings. Went to go do this myself before seeing this thread, only to find that someone had beaten me to it! Anyways, I feel like Eagle Creek (and Oneonta) probably required and will require the most work of all trails. I'm hopeful now that Eagle Creek is...

Riverside Fire BAER map

The soil burn severity map from the Riverside Fire was just released today: https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/map/7222/1/109366

There's also maps of the White River and Thielsen Fires on the parent page as well: https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/maps/7222/

Re: Fall Colors In The Columbia River Gorge 9/29-9/30

It's pretty toasty, in the area just north of Chinidere Mountain. At least there is bear grass. The areas just west of Eagle Creek look really burnt to me... Doesn't seem like lots of regrowth yet, but I'm no expert. Yeah, the various aerials gave me the impression that this was pretty much the mos...

Re: Fall Colors In The Columbia River Gorge 9/29-9/30

Nice pictures! How's the regrowth looking in the burn zone on the trail between Wahtum Lake and Camp Smokey these days?

Re: Loowit Trail (Fail)

I've had great luck by enlarging the loop a little bit, and taking the Butte Camp / Toutle trails past Blue Lake instead of keeping strictly to the Loowit. This gives an extra opportunity for water at Butte Camp and/or Blue Lake, avoids the sketchy canyon, and provides a few miles of shade. The wes...

Re: Jefferson Park and Opal Creek burned?

I'm encouraged by reports that most of Mill City was spared from the Santiam Fire. First, it's great that people there still has their homes to go back to. But secondarily, I hope this is evidence that the fires are burning in a mosaic pattern rather than as a conflagration destroying all in their p...

Re: Jefferson Park and Opal Creek burned?

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/202 ... acker.html

The NYTimes map is showing a much more mosaic pattern for the Beachie Creek, Riverside, Lionshead, and Holiday Farm Fires than some of the other maps I've been looking at like the ESRI map. Hoping that this is accurate...

Re: Jefferson Park and Opal Creek burned?

Reminds me of the Yacolt Burn of 1902 in terms of destruction.... So terrible!

Franklin Ridge Trail #427

I noticed while looking at the Gorge's closure notice https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd716508.pdf for COVID-19 that the Franklin Ridge Trail #427 is listed as open. I haven't heard about this anywhere else; is there anyone who can confirm if this is an error in the map or if the ...
