Re: GoalTech hikes Mt Adams 360 - Day 3, 6/28/15

Hi Mike, late reply on this, but we ended up getting back to our car a bit before 9pm. Total time on the day ended up being about 14 hours so it was a long one. Beautiful route, though, and I think it would have been much faster taking the high route on the east side rather than dropping down to the...

Re: GoalTech hikes Mt Adams 360 - Day 2, 6/27/15

I was with a group that did the loop on June 27th and we took the low route down through Hellroaring and Big Muddy Valleys and it was pretty burly. Endless moraines to cross and some very technical traverses and descents (including some actual rock climbing). Big Muddy was impossible to cross so we ...

I came across you while you were in camp on day two. I was one of the four runners completing the loop in a day. Certainly was a gorgeous route!

Re: Timberline Trail in one day trip- July 26, 2014

I've done it in a day each of the last few years and prefer later in August or early September when the flowers are in full bloom and the huckleberries are ripe. I did it in mid-July last year and it wasn't bad (very little snow), but the streams were still running pretty high...much easier later wh...

Re: Water on MSH Loowit just north of Pumice Butte?

I did the loop (as part of a race) last Saturday. There was water running at the spring where it always runs as well as at a number of other places, including the spot near Pumice Butte. However, that was the day after some good rain so I don't know how reliable that will be going forward. I only ev...

Race across Elk & Kings in October!

I know a lot of you spend a good amount of time in the Elk-Kings area so this may be of some interest to you. There will be a race on October 12th starting at the Elk campground that will go up Elk Mountain, around to Kings and then down to the Wilson River Trail and finish at the Tillamook Forest C...

Re: Section Hiking Oregon on the PCT

Just a little note of interest on the subject...local trail runner, Brian Donnelly, set the current Oregon PCT record at 7 days, 22 hours, and 37 minutes in mid-August. He's a beast and a great guy.

MSH Loowit race on Saturday 9/7

Just a warning that there is a race (Volcanic 50) around MSH this Saturday that starts and ends at Marble Mountain. There will be about 150 runners so might be a good day to hike a different trail.

Re: Question About the Timberline Trail

It's looking like the end of July may be pretty decent for the TT, but it's impossible to know for sure until we get closer. The Elliot crossing really isn't that bad so you should be fine as long as you're comfortable with a little scrambling on loose terrain.
