Re: Mt. Hebo Hike -01/01/19

Very cool. Did you continue on or turn around? Any nerves? What's the boards opinion in general on the amount of wildlife seen on Oregon trails (specifically in the Oregon Cascades / Mt Hood)? Why does it seem like there's so much less than Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Washington, etc? Or is it just ...

Re: Timberline Trail in a Day

Fantastic report! My wife and I did one night in Paradise Park in June and fell in love with the mountain. What a special place

Re: Paradise Park from Timberline Lodge in late June

Trip Report: Well, we made it without much issue from Timberline to PP. Camped at Split Rock. Snow was a total non-factor. Patches here and there throughout with the longest stretch probabaly 100 yards right before Hidden Lake trail cut off on PCT. Didn’t put on the micro spikes at all. River crossi...

Re: Paradise Park from Timberline Lodge in late June

T-minus 1 week! Thanks to some posters on this forum (retired jerry, Chip Down, and kepPNW), I feel really well prepared for next week. I will be sure to circle back afterwards with a download. A couple house keeping items: i) Do I need to get any permits in advance, or are they all available at the...

Re: Paradise Park from Timberline Lodge in late June

I'm just thinking straight shot on PCT to PP, make the loop trail around it, camp there somewhere (near split rock?), and then back to the lodge the next day. While we're very experienced hikers, we haven't done much technical winter hiking - i think we'll stay in the safer zones! Any major issues y...

Re: Paradise Park from Timberline Lodge in late June

Thanks! You're giving me hope! What kind of footwear did you use? Will I need snowshoes or crampons? Or, can I make it with regular hiking boots? I think both of us put on microspikes for that portion of the Timberline Trail that was under snow. They really weren't necessary, and only lent the trac...

Re: Paradise Park from Timberline Lodge in late June

We got to Paradise Park on June 2 without any serious trouble, but we did have a GPS track to follow through the woods near Timberline. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1744/27700634637_f120628445_c.jpg Timberline "Trail," near the lodge, June 2. Snow was very deep at first, but basically gone from L...

Re: Paradise Park from Timberline Lodge in late June

I'm quickly losing confidence about being able to get to Paradise Park in 2.5 weeks (with little snow and a clear trail). Base depth still 50" at Timberline and looks like more snow coming next couple days. Seems like it's time to find an alternative.

Re: All-New for 2018! A snow level thread.

Karl and I just did the Mississippi Head loop on 6/2/18. 95% snow coverage from Timberline Lodge to the ZZ canyon overlook. Almost zero snow down to the ZZ crossing. We took the first ridge to get to the Mississippi Head traverse. That ridge was 98% clear of snow right up to the climb up to Mississ...
