Re: Backpacking Whetstone Ridge

Thanks for the replies. Greenjello85, I hadn't read anything about a cabin, that sounds pretty cool. I always love to check out back county stuff like that, whether it be a lookout or a cabin, ever since I sat around a campfire and listened to my uncle's stories about living in and operating a fire ...

Re: Backpacking Whetstone Ridge

I meant "camel-up" at Twin Lakes. Probably should have previewed it first :)

Backpacking Whetstone Ridge

I'm considering taking my 13 year old daughter on her first backpacking trip this August and am looking at Whetstone Ridge to Twin Lakes the first night and then staying the second night at the old lookout site at Battle Ax. Question: is there any water access at all along the ridge? Especially in A...

Re: April 18/19 Backpacking Trip...any suggestions?

OK, good. I thought you might be saying that the Indian Henry TH was snowed in. It's only around 1,500ft, so it surprised me. Thanks for the suggestions, I think we'll keep it simple and do the Clackamas River Trail from Indian Henry to Fish Creek and then hit up Bagby.

Re: April 18/19 Backpacking Trip...any suggestions?

Teachpdx and Meiyong, thanks for the suggestion. I'll chat with my brother. We might just do it, we've been talking about doing a longer desert hike (like Owyhee Canyonlands or Steens) one of these springs, but this might just have to do. I never hear anybody taking about the coast range. Are there ...

April 18/19 Backpacking Trip...any suggestions?

Hello all, My brother and I are looking into a quick two night backpacking trip on April 18/19. I live in the Woodburn area. With the snow pack being what it is and the Eagle Creek fire limiting early season hiking in the Gorge, I'm not sure about the possibilities. I also don't get off work until 6...

Re: Broken Top Loop / Green Lakes

The trails were fine...some snow starting at the Golden Lake turnoff, and off and on over the saddle between South Sister and Broken Top, but nothing serious. The climb up to Broken Top and No Name Lake wasn't too bad either. We had to cross several snow fields on our way across the upper plain east...

Broken Top Loop

My wife and I (along with our dog, Trevor) left from Three Creeks Lake / Tam McCarthur TH around 10am. The first 6 miles took us through the Pole Creek burn from 2012. I thought that the scenery was strangely beautiful with the contrast between grey and black burn and the green and various wild flow...

Re: Broken Top Loop / Green Lakes

Well, we plan to head out early tomorrow, so I'll try to complete my first trip report when we return. I'm hoping we don't trek 18 miles and then have to return the same route instead of just finishing the last 2.5 of the loop! I guess that scenario just means spending some extra time in a beautiful...
