Re: Indian Heaven - Bird Mt. Loop

Very few mosquitos for those of you considering IHW. I didn't even use my deet. Very enjoyable trip with the family and it was the first time backpacking for my 10yo daughter. She was a trooper. The mosquitos were the only thing that I thought could ruin the trip and they were minimal. The wind kept...

Re: Indian Heaven - Bird Mt. Loop

I understand, I've spent since time in the woods. However, if a big hatch happens, that would decrease the likelihood of another. It's also just nice to know what others have experienced recently.

Re: Best Sunset Hike?

Did Bald Mountain from Lolo Pass last week. It's a beautiful hike, about 6.4 rt. and around 1,400 ft. eg. I got to the viewpoint in the afternoon and got some great pics, but you are facing east, so you don't get the sun in the pic. I didn't get any of the sunset glow, but I know some go up to BM fo...

Indian Heaven - Bird Mt. Loop

Planning a 2 night excursion next weekend and was wondering if anybody has been in the area recently with a report on mosquitos.

Thanks in advance!

North Fork Crooked Wild and Scenic River BLM land

I'm planning for a post quarantine backpacking trip to what looks to be a beautiful desert river canyon: https://www.blm.gov/visit/north-fork-crooked-wild-scenic-river However, I can't seem to find any trip reports of any kind for the area. Plenty for the Crooked River, but not for the North Fork Cr...

Re: Backpacking Whetstone Ridge

Thanks for the replies. Greenjello85, I hadn't read anything about a cabin, that sounds pretty cool. I always love to check out back county stuff like that, whether it be a lookout or a cabin, ever since I sat around a campfire and listened to my uncle's stories about living in and operating a fire ...

Re: Backpacking Whetstone Ridge

I meant "camel-up" at Twin Lakes. Probably should have previewed it first :)

Backpacking Whetstone Ridge

I'm considering taking my 13 year old daughter on her first backpacking trip this August and am looking at Whetstone Ridge to Twin Lakes the first night and then staying the second night at the old lookout site at Battle Ax. Question: is there any water access at all along the ridge? Especially in A...

Re: April 18/19 Backpacking Trip...any suggestions?

OK, good. I thought you might be saying that the Indian Henry TH was snowed in. It's only around 1,500ft, so it surprised me. Thanks for the suggestions, I think we'll keep it simple and do the Clackamas River Trail from Indian Henry to Fish Creek and then hit up Bagby.
