Re: Vista Ridge to Elk Cove Camping

Thank you for checking out the photos!

They were tolerable for people that are used to being outdoors, but for people that are not, they were oppressive at times. :D

Vista Ridge to Elk Cove Camping

Sign.jpg Little three-day jaunt up Vista Ridge to Elk Cove. Vista Ridge - Counted 36 trees across the trail, maybe 1/3 of which are new. less than 1/2 of them require you to leave the trail to skirt by. Snowfield at the top, as per usual this time of year, no issues though. Timberline to Elk Cove h...

Re: Best trail car/truck

There is not much to add to this conversation except for my own experience. I own a 2015 Forester that I have done some work to. Lift, wheels, tires, the works. So far, there has not been a road that I have not been able to navigate with my setup. Yes, there are times I wished I was in a 4x4 truck, ...

Vista Ridge to Elk Cove

IMG_4299.jpeg My favorite entry to Timberline is on the Vista Ridge trail. I love walking through the old burn from the Dollar Lake fire of 2011. The trail offers amazing views of Hood as you gradually climb towards Timberline and you can also sneak peeks of another Cascade gem to the north, Mount ...

Re: Badger Creek to badger Lake

Thank you for the report and the pictures. I had called Hood River Ranger Station just yesterday and asked about access to High Prairie Trail Head and hiking along the ridge to Lookout Mountain. The ranger said it was still snowed in. Now I think maybe it just hasn't been checked in awhile. Especia...

Re: Tried to get into Eagle Cap Wilderness

Thank you for the update on this area. I was planning to go next week, but had heard conflicting reports. Now there are two confirmations of snow melting fast and I have solidified my plans to Ice Lake and beyond!

Re: Mazama Triple D Challenge

Wow. I went up Mt. Defiance a few weeks ago, and it took me 6 hours and 40 minutes total. And then I had to rest for three days. Devil's Rest I had never heard of, so thanks for that pointer. I have always been too scared of the crowds and parking problems at Dog Mountain to try that one. Good job,...

Re: Overheard on the trail

I was on a hike in the rain. As I was heading down the mountain to the parking lot, I run in to a family of six dressed from head to toe in the most expensive water proof gear money could buy. Pants, jackets and hats....all waterproof. They were carrying umbrellas. All of them. Open.
