Re: Big Wallowa Loop - Aneroid to Eagle Cap

Was there a trail or obvious route from Mt Howard to Dollar lake? Any trouble finding a safe route? I've been wanting to hike that route but have been reluctant as I'm usually hiking solo. Navigating from Mt Howard to Android was not too difficult. There were some trails that I hopped on/off. I wan...

Nice! How were the crowds out there?
I didn’t see anyone until I got down to the Wallowa River going up to Glacier Lake. Glacier lake had some folks but wasn’t too bad. Didn’t really see anyone around eagle cap. Overall I got a good amount of solitude. I chalk that up mostly to going mid week.

Big Wallowa Loop - Aneroid to Eagle Cap

Did a really fun loop in the Wallowas from 8/4 - 8/7. Hiked about 45 Miles with 8,000k of gain. Started at the Wallowa Lake TH and walked down the road to the tramway. Took the tram up Mt Howard and walked the ridge going south over East Peak and then on to Aneroid. Dropped down Aneroid and set up c...

Re: Timberline Trail 25-27

Thank you for this report! My son and I plan to start a trip around from Timberline on July 4. Can you confirm the route you took from Ramona Falls? Did you use trail 600 and cross the Muddy Fork up high, or take trail 797 downhill and circle back up to Bald Mtn.? You had an ambitious pace. We are ...

Re: Timberline Trail 25-27

Awesome post, and super helpful. Thanks so much. We are hoping to head out later this week and hike the trail Fri-Sat-Sun, but when we spoke with the rangers just now, they said it's too early in the season and the trail is snowed out. They said there's no way for us to go. Your post is giving us s...

Re: Timberline Trail 25-27

Just want to point out to others considering this that you went during a heat wave, so the snow was soft and you could kick steps. It is likely much harder and more slippery now. You are totally right. When I woke up at 5am and left cooper spur headed towards gnarl ridge I had to cross several chut...

Timberline Trail 25-27

Hiked the timberline trail starting Thursday 6/25. Left after work and started on the trail at 6pm. Hiked 6ish miles to paradise park and camped at split rock. Didn’t see a soul, had the whole place to myself. Friday I hiked 24ish miles to cooper spur. Saturday hiked remaining 14 miles and back to t...

Looking for an overnight in the snow

I am looking for any suggestions for a good winter overnight backpack. Me and a couple friends like to do one easy winter backpacking trip a year just to get out there. I am looking for: -easy to moderate hike -with or without snowshoes -not crowded -on or around Mt Hood or Coast Range I appreciate ...

Water on Mt Adams

I am planning on going up Mt Adams via the south climb trail-head this weekend and overnighting on the lunch counter. Does anyone know of any reliable water sources anywhere near the lunch counter? My understanding is that Morrison Creek is the only running water on the south climb trail, but that's...
