Falls Creek Trail
We hiked the Falls Creek Trail from Falls Creek Horse Camp to the Falls Creek Falls overlook over two days, giving us time to check out the Lava Caves. We followed the great field guide description, day hiking from the Falls Creek Horse Camp to FR 67 with a stop at the Lava Caves on the way back. In...

Re: Duncan Creek & Russ Jolley
Thanks for opening the trail. I hiked from Railcar Falls to Kueffler Rd in 2018 and from Kueffler Rd to Hardy Ridge and on to Hardy Creek in 2019. Don't know if all this was along your trail, but I don't recall too many problems except a ~200 ft bushwack from Phlox point down to a trail to the west....

Re: Duncan Creek & Russ Jolley
Thanks for the info, although if this wasn't the old Russ Jolley trail then someone else made this trail?

Duncan Creek & Russ Jolley
Hiking the WA Russ Jolley from Duncan Creek east was on my hiking to-do list and finally completed it today. We followed the Field Guide directions up Duncan Creek to Railcar Falls, then backtracked to the Russ Jolley trail. There were three cars at the trailhead and the trail is in great shape; see...

Santiam Highway Update
Tried to do a couple of short hikes along the Santiam Highway. Hackleman Grove was signed "Trail closed due to hazards". "Will reopen after July 15, 2022". The House Rock Falls loop was closed , although there is a reroute along Santiam Wagon Road to get to the waterfall. There is quite a bit of sno...

McKenzie River Trail and Santiam Wagon Road Trail
Day hiked the McKenzie River trail from the north trailhead to the ranger station, minus the section closed by the 2021 Knoll Fire, over 2 days. The hike was very wet (rained most of the weekend). The trail is in pretty good shape. Between the Carmen dam and Blue Pool there are many low hanging mapl...

Re: Trails for viewing wild rhododendrons within 90 minutes of Bend?
There are rhododendrons blooming now on the lower section of the McKenzie River Trail, up stream of the ranger station. Blooms are lovely but not an area dense with rhodies.

Re: Eagle Creek to Wahtum Lake
We didn’t hike around the lake, just from the Eagle Creek trail to the junction where the PCT turns toward Indian Springs. There was snow everywhere we could see; however, it did seem like being near water impacted the snow level (cooling effect?) We crossed snow on the hike up near a stream, then n...
